So, I just got this off Amazon via 3rd party from seller "GoHastings." Which I assume is the "Hastings" store selling blu-rays to move product from their stores. I put the disc in today and the entire damn thing is in Chinese or Japanese lettering. The warning before the feature begins, all the menu selections, everything. There is no indications on the disc or case that this is from China or Japan because if it was it surely would not play in my Region 1 player right? A PS3.
Has this happened before? Is it just me? I'm rather pissed off right now. Any information will be extremely helpful. The only thing I found puzzling is that there was no security tag sticker on the top of the case, but sometimes there just isn't one in some cases. I looked over the case and disc are and it all looks legit, but makes no mention of what Region the disc is. Also, very oddly when going to selection subtitles the first option that comes up is not English, but Japanese. I have no other disc in my entire collection that gives Japanese as the first option for subtitles. Last edited by thompsonjohn; 02-25-2014 at 06:01 AM. |

I guess I'm going to try and get a refund, this is insane, the entire menu text is in Japanese I have no idea what special feature I'll be selecting. How in the world could this have happened?

Seems like I'm not the only one with this issue, has this been brought up here before? A bunch of people on Amazon got a disc like mine..

There are no indications whatsoever that this is an import from Japan. Even if it was it would have be region free so I could play it in my player. All of the text on the insert in the case is English, the film plays in English. I'm really upset with this now.

While I ordered from the 3rd party which is the store "Hastings" if you look at that link other people are complaining that Amazon themselves are selling discs like this. Some people even mention their copies from Best Buy had this issue.

hastings sells used items.... but they do not do much QC. they probably just got the chinese release (my guess is you are mistaking chinese from japanese).
so you just have the chinese release. contact hastings for a refund and order from a different seller. My bet is the cheaper ones for sale are all the chinese versions. However, its probably the same transfer and has english audio.. so is it worth it? |

http://www.amazon.com/menu-Blu-ray-c...sin=6303111874 These comments reflect Amazon purchases not strictly Hastings' purchases, I only got mine from Hastings because they advertised a new copy for a decent price. |

And yeah I don't know if it's Chinese or Japanese, I just assumed it was Japanese because that is the first option when you go to select subtitles on the film and we all know English is usually the first choice, well all of us in North America.

I seriously can't believe no one else has experienced this? Maybe there is a recently batch of discs produced that have this problem, but I sent back my disc from Amazon and bought as directed straight from the WBshop and it's the same thing, same problem.

Warner Bros. told me to re-purchase through WBshop which I did, getting the same kind of disc I got from Amazon. This time around they ignored by e-mail guess it's time for one more try.
I could careless that the FBI piracy warnings are in Japanese, I want to read my menus/special features menu. Seems only one other person has spoken up and admitted to having this issue too. Please, people if you own "The Getaway" and it's been awhile since you've seen it check your discs. As I said before, there are no markings or Japanese indications on the front or back cover or disc artwork at all. This is a Region 1 release pure and simple. |

Anyway, I wrote to Warner Bros. after they never responded to my second e-mail claiming that the disc they suggested I purchase from them at WBshop.com would be fine as opposed to the flawed one I had purchased at Amazon. Laughable, I know, as if Amazon is some second rate marketplace selling bootlegs and merchandise that isn't legitimized. EDIT - Nevermind, apparently something got fcuked up in the copy & paste process or they wouldn't let me copy or some kind of bullshit. But, hopefully the e-mail is featured when they reply, if they even decide to reply. What got to me is their attitude seemed as if they didn't want to bother to get to the bottom of why a catalog title features no FBI Piracy warnings, just a screen full of Japanese text. WBshop has replacement discs made. If you have a disc with all the Japanese text and want a corrected Region 1 disc, PM me and I can put you in touch with the woman who handles this specific issue, e-mailing WBshop in general about it has done nothing, it took me 4 attempts to get this far.
