Glad to see 'Screaming' wasn't a one off, I knew if more were to be released it would be these two next has they've had HD showings, 'Jack' is the only other, that'll be next, and hopefully in July if these release dates are anything to go by.....then one a month after that will do nicely

No word on the 'Rank' owned releases as yet I see.

Fakir Off!

LOL - one of the best lines ever.

Screaming, Khyber and Camel are my 3 fave Carry ons. Although I love most of them really, comes of being a child of the 70's Back when we only had 3 TV channels (that closed down at midnight!) and home video was a distant dream... Carry On's were a week night movie highlight!

I have happy memories of seeing Carry On Cleo at the cinema (the Palace, Kensal Rise, West London) in a time long ago, but I'm not paying more than £8 for the Blu-ray. It'll come down.

Genius. It's a pity the first choice for the fakir was unavailable, Tommy Cooper would have been fantastic. Other lines about the fakir were cut at the insistence of the censor and even the length of the pause between fakir and off had to be approved.

"Rank stupidity!"

I hope Spying gets a release before too long, Charles Hawtrey is brilliant in that.

Yup - Tommy Cooper would have been amazing!

Spying is an odd one - it always feels more like a 'real' movie than a Carry on.. if you know what I mean? Same with Carry on Jack.

I wonder what people who've grown up in the 90's/2000's think of Carry Ons? They're pretty much in the blood for everyone I know

Yep, Carry On Spying is quite surreal, not like the others. I like Spying & Cleo the best. I quite like Jack & Cowboy. I think Khyber would have been a lot better with Jim Dale in the Roy Castle roll. Of the later ones, Don't lose your Head Is very Good...& my guilty pleasure...Carry On Abroad.

I understand that Carry On Cleo looks much better than its budget would suggest because they were able to use some sets & costumes left when the epic Cleopatra abandoned Pinewood to film in Italy.

I think Spying seems a bit odd because of the black and white. It works well for the Harry Lime type bits but when they attempt to do James Bond on a budget of five pounds it looks wrong.

I think there were six films before Spying shot in black and white with only two in colour. I think a few of the black and white features have been shown recently on TV so I've gotten used to them by now.

It would be nice to see the rest of the Carry On movies on BD.

The early black and white Carry Ons were a lot better and funnier than the later "ooh crikey missus" ones.

Rank stupidity! Still makes me laugh even reading your post.

Also "the British are used to cuts" and the dinner party. Legendary!

In Cowboy, surely the 'Liquor at the front, poker at the rear' sign in the saloon has to be on of the best 'lines' in the series?

The problem is they are all Rank titles so owned by ITV who seem to have given up on BD. They are now licensing their films to Network in bulk including reissues as SE of some of their early extras free titles like Ipcress File.

The 3 announced so far are all from the initial 12 Anglo Amalgamated films now owned by Studio Canal.

As said above expect the two remaining colour Anglo Amalgamated films from Studio Canal first : Cruising and Jack

Then there are their seven black and white films : Sergeant, Nurse, Teacher, Constable, Regardless, Cabby and Spying, which I can see Studio Canal also releasing if sales hold up

There is no sign of the Rank (ITV) 17 films : Don't Lose Your Head, Follow That Camel, Doctor, Up the Kyber, Camping, Again Doctor, Up the Jungle, Loving, Henry, At Your Convenience, Matron, Abroad, Girls, Dick, Behind, England and Emmannuelle

or Island World's Carry on Colombus. That never got a legal DVD (only bootlegs) and I think my VHS was Warner, but no idea who has the rights these days as Island World are long since deceased

Oh well, just as well all the good/early ones are Anglo Amalgamated. I can't blame Studio Canal for trying to make a profit, but over £16 is pushing it a bit! It seems these companies think that Hammer & Carry On fans will stand for anything.

If you pre ordered from Amazon all three of the Carry Ons have been a few pence over £13 each. The price rises as they approach release date. Also given they are Studio Canal expect a long wait, usually over a year for any material price drops. Zavvi will probably have them under £10 each in a year or so.

Purchased 'Screaming' from Zavvi for £10 two months after initial release, certainly not paying £16, and even £10 was a little more than I generally pay nowadays, but StudioCanal are very much like 'Ealing' in that their prices are on the high end and never seem to come down.

The initial Anglo-Amalgamated or "the Warner 12" as they are sometimes known, before the series was sold off to Rank (where they dropped Carry On from the title for their first two!) are easily more likely to come out on Blu, as decent elements seem to be much more readily available, or just better stored. Cowboy, Cleo and Screaming appear on the ITV channels in HD regularly, and look really rather nice.

To complete my SD collection, the Missus (who was also brought up on them) picked me up the Australian release of Carry On Columbus, and it's a pretty lousy DVD, and probably as close to an "official" bootleg as you can get. The movie is pretty crap, too. All of the "young stars look embarrassed to be appearing, and that's even before getting to the horrible script. The few regulars who are in it show up the youngsters when it comes to delivering a line for maximum laughs. Jack Douglas' reply to "Will they swallow me whole" is a perfect example.

If - by some miracle - they announced that all of the films were coming out on Blu, they would be pretty bloody cheeky to offer them in anything other than a reasonably-priced box-set.
