Default The Castle of Cagliostro coming from Discotek Media

FB Announcement:

Castle of Cagliostro. DVD and Blu Ray. The DVD will come out first, probably in August. Blu ray will be end of year or early 2015. Both English dubs will be included, it will have the original intro along with the Japanese language and English subs.

Didn't know Manga lost the license rights to that movie.

I should have expected it would come from Discotek's love of retro, but for some reason, I vainly expected MangaUS to finally go through with it.
Personally, I'd rather have it on Discotek.

By "The original intro", take it they mean the original credits?
(Without cropping/overlaying for English credits, as the later Manga DVD had?)

Amazing news! Discotek hinted that they'd be releasing a Lupin III title on Blu-ray soon earlier this year and I'm glad to see it's The Castle of Cagliostro. Hopefully this paves the way for more Lupin III titles!

Most likely. The Japanese credits were moving, whereas the Manga altered English credits would freeze frame shots that had no Japanese credit characters.

Go to 2:22 - while there are imposed spanish subtitles, these are the original (moving) credits.

Also, since Manga owns their own dub, Discotek will reportedly be using the "classic" theatrical Streamline dub from the 80's, which had fallen into public domain:

(Yes, the one where they call him "Wolf" for author-copyright issues, but otherwise, the voices are better.)

I'm assuming the Manga dub came with the acquisition, since Discotek said:

Unless their is another English dub besides the Steamline and Manga versions? I know other studios have acquired other companies dubs when they acquired a licences, like Sentai's inclusion of the original English dub for Grave of the Fireflies alongside their own newly recorded one.

Yeah, they seem to be a little late this year. The past few years they've announced the May releases by now. I hope we're still getting the next batch in May.

Discotek is great. They always release the definitive editions of many forgotten anime, in my opinion. Even when they are doing DVD only, they find some way of making them the ultimate releases of the films.

Can't wait to finally get a good version of this with the original credits.
