I hope so too but I doubt it'll happen anytime soon. This got released in time for the sequel.

Yeah, I just found out about the "sequel" which I had no idea about.

Kitano is quite popular among cinephiles overseas, notably in France where I don't doubt his movies will come out soon or later (hopefully without the horrendous 5.1 spatialization remix from the Studio Canal editions).

I'm answering this eleven years later, but you can get Kikujiro on Blu-ray from Japan on the Bandai label with English subtitles. All of their Kitano releases include English subs.
