Thanks Deciazulado.

If anyone here saw Rio 2 3D, did the 3D look as strong as it did in the trailers? Thanks.

Saw some of this movie in the theater, but quickly lost interest and slept through most of it. Horrible movie compared to the first.

Wasn't really excited about this movie, also missing it theatrically, but the great review comments about the music and 3D that were posted today have me all worked up to want the "3D experience" when it arrives in the mail today!

Rio 2 3D
Quote:
Sergio's influence is all over the soundtrack of this film, with echoes of several of his albums as disparate as Primal Roots to Arara floating through the dense tropical jungles that serve as the setting for this sequel, and in fact it may be the soundtrack that is one of the chief selling points of this enjoyable but largely by the numbers follow up.
Quote:
Saldanha and his rendering team have given a lot of thought to offering depth in even routine sequences, so that when big production numbers pop up and there's even more dimensionality, it's a really intoxicating visual experience.

Rio 2 3D
My family liked the first one well enough. I didn't see much promotion for the second one, which has me a little worried. I still don't know what it's about (partly because I stay away from spoilers). But because of the 4.5/5 review for the 3D, I too will give it a chance.

I didn't think this movie was well promoted either. I own the first one, so as a collector I must purchase the second one. Would anybody else recommend this to me?

No, I recommend that you stay far far away from this one. Not even close to half as good as the first one. In fact, I fell asleep in the theater.

FYI:
Is it just me maybe imagining it? Would like others to corroborate what I think I'm seeing, as I just checked out the movie briefly to verify specifications for statistical profile documentation in my profiler list. Was delightedly surprised that the authored 3D disc seems to have 3D parameters extended farther than what I've seen from previous 3D authored discs.
In other words, the 3D image seems to have an overall depth increase that looks deeper to me in the positive plane area and pop-out extending further in the negative areas.
This seemed to be evident to me from the beginning when I viewed the registered trademark symbol "®", prominently placed out further than I'm used to viewing it in the "20th Century Fox Home Entertainment" leader clip starter credit. From there, the various "briefly" skimmed scenes I've viewed, using both my Vaio F3D laptop and confirming distance perception with my discrete 3D headset, I sure hope I'm not seeing things and would like others to comment. Hope it's true!. edit: Flame suit on in case I'm wrong.

Thumbs up

@ Paul H

I just opened & quick-checked my copy. It definitely has much better depth and pop than the first Rio.
Highly looking forward to The Book of Life after watching the 3D preview on this, also.

Yes, even the classic PC game Grim Fandango is getting rereleased on console.

Default Great Music Review and History Lesson on Sergio Mendes

Nice review on the history of Sergio Mendes and his music. That first incredibly long paragraph seemed like an intolerable amount of reading before you actually got to review the uh... movie itself, though.

Mr. Mendes certainly warrants all accolades (and I hope he wins as well), but you might have placed your personal musical opinions regarding the movie in a more appropriate place... after the movie review, perhaps?

Just sayin'.

Hi Paul, so I've been conflicted on whether to bother picking this one up or not. Amazing 3D aside, after seeing the cartoon and the story. Are you happy you made the purchase?

It has an impactful first impression 3D visual experience, but IMO, like ckenisell posted, the movie is not as good as the original. Suggest a cautionary trial rental for the story before an initial-price purchase.

Verified that both the Blu-ray 3D & Blu-ray disc will play on a Region B player. The DVD is an NTSC encode, not PAL, and Digital HD will most likely be U.S. specific.

Rio 2 has a surprising number of pop outs. The story is alright, nothing special.
