I can't find any thread for this movie so I guess this is it now. I noticed when I visit the web page and click the "Forum" tab that several threads appear that have nothing to do with this movie. Maybe it just searches for threads with words in the movie title as keywords. Anyway, I saw the movie originally on black-and-white TV (late sixties) while home alone one afternoon with nothing to do. As a teenager I was captured by the opening sequence and then got drawn into the story. I found the movie to be a profound experience and never forgot it.
Now I have the book which is different from the movie in content but clearly the soil from which the movie was inspired. I bought the Twilight Time DVD release a couple years ago which is how I discovered Screen Archives Entertainment. And now I have the Blu-ray. The movie continues to deliver the same mystical experience for me. The Blu-ray is an excellent transfer and is a noticeable improvement in picture quality over the DVD. The sound is also good. I have a reasonably good home theater system (Denon AVR with Klipsch 5.1 speaker system). I would recommend this movie to anyone who tends to look at life philosophically. It's not a movie every person will appreciate. I think what people say about it reveals something about the reviewer more than it does the movie. For me it is a very simple story that delivers a very important message. I find it somewhat sad and disappointing when people knock movies they clearly don't get but I guess that's to be expected to some degree. The early 60's was actually a very introspective period of time for movies and television in America. After all, this was when "The Outer Limits", "The Twilight Zone" and "One Step Beyond" were at their peak. Last edited by scrapser; 05-20-2014 at 04:54 PM. |

It seems Twilight Time will do "anniversary" sales now every year around March/April, which would make it $19.99 instead of $29.99. Since this film is not likely to sell out - nor is it necessarily likely to be released elsewhere - that is something to keep an eye on. Not exactly bargain bin, but $19.99 is alot easier to swallow for me when i am taking a total flyer on a film.

I'm kind of curious to see this. Last Fall when I happened upon a DVD of The Earth Dies Screaming, I thought it was curious that that film originally played in a double bill with this, Fate is the Hunter, which before that I'd never heard of (same as I had never heard of The Earth Dies Screaming before finding the Midnite Movies double pack with Chosen Survivors at the Dollar Store that morning). Seems like an odd pairing.
![]() Now, for me at this point, kind of curious absolutely does not translate to "Here's $35 Twilight Time", but if it's ever convenient I would definitely check out the picture. Last edited by kidglov3s; 07-16-2015 at 06:56 PM. |
