Default HD DVD responding with their own sale

Amazon has about 20 HD DVDs for 50% off. Needless to say, they are climbing the amazon charts. I hope they dont take this week.

I will be getting Badder Santa, but the HD DVD crowrd are the bargain bin losers who will all jump an any sale because its a sale, if that wasnt the case they would have gotten Blu-ray. These people are vultures and they will jump on any sale that comes along.

Maybe this is just their way of not getting beat 9:1 this week. However, since that trek TV show is combo HD DVD/DVD, I think many trekies will be buing it, even if they dont have an HD DVD player.

Price wars typically benefit the consumer. If they want to buy even more movies in a dying format, that's their choice. I'm happy with the sales we've gotten.

Heck, any day of the week, I'd match the Disney, Sony, Fox, and MGM titles we've had on sale these past few weeks to what they're getting.

They're buying the equivalent of Yugos.

Yeah We'll see how this pans out.

When the blu-ray BOGOF kicked off Blu-ray had about 90 titles in the top 100 Hi-def sales on Amazon. They do a similar promo for HD DVD and HD DVD gets 52 Titles to Blu's 48 in the top 100 (at the time of this post).

This exposes HD DVD's lack of depth while at the same time the the offer is killing off sales of their big releases like Shrek, star Trek and the Bourne Ultimatum.

When we had a similar offer, Ratatouille still held the #1 slot. I wouldn't be too worried by this.

Well, one thing the last couple of weeks have taught us is that Amazon rankings have very little to do with reality. Rat was so high up with Cars for almost a week, while SM3 barely showed up but SM3+Trilogy outsold Rat+Cars easily when the final reports came out.

I wouldn't worry too much what Amazon says.

enjoy

Win this week? This is just their desperate attempt to not get beaten by much once again lol. Remember you can still win even if you still lose according to engadget. This is the release of the Die Hard Quadrilogy and the standalone movies and they are desparate at this point.

if we had no new releases and if it was a sale outside of amazon also, then they might have the week.

IMO, it's just amazon, and I've heard the biggest hi-def shop is bestbuy (correct me if it's wrong - I'm not american).

Not a huge change. the difference between BD and HD DVD is not significant (less than 100 in average top ten ranks). While when BD had buy 2 get 1, the difference can range to 100-200 in average top 10 ranks

That's just fine if Startrek is a combo disk. You just know there will be many defective disks in that collection. That's a great way to introduce those new a2 players to hd-dvdefective.

If the sale is only on Amazon, it is not going to make much of a dent at all. Remember, to take Transformers week it took sales a Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Amazon etc. The number of discs Amazon sells is not that large.

Don't worry.
