The box art is awesome, but I'm unsure whether to wait for the updated Criterion version or not...

If only it was out so we could compare.

Also, just realized that's PLAIN's cover mimics the original graphic novel's cover.

That's cool.

Yep, I'll be getting this one as well. With all of these Plain Archive premium releases and so many Blufans and Kimchi steelbooks, I'm quickly forgetting about Criterion.

They teased it last week on their FB page, but I forgot about to post it here. Thanks BHolst!

Maybe I missed something but what is 003? Zero Dark Thirty? Seems to have gone really quiet on that one.

#3 is the Korean animated film "King of Pigs" (though no release is slated at this time).

So it's going to be like the "Melancholia/Wrestler" situation where #4 is released before #3.

You're welcome!

I think it was the KD edition they teased last week, at least there wasn't much english text in the post so I didn't bother with it

Since I have all Blu-ray releases from Criterion (up until and including the titles that was released during the fall 2013 B&N 50% off sale), I'm not going to stop buying them now. But it does cause the odd double-dip (as if that is something new for me ) when I want a Steelbook (Two-Lane Blacktop, for instance) or is thinking about buying all releases from another distributor (like Plain)...

I just received Melancholia and The Wrestler today and am completely blown away by the packaging and quality. That being said, I already have the first Criterion edition of Blue... and had planned on purchasing the special edition later this year. It is by far my favorite film to be released since Tree of Life and I adore it to an almost obsessive degree. Ugh, I wanted all the Plain Archive editions but that's another $40ish for a film I'd already planned on buying twice.

Guess if the subs are just as good as the Criterion, I could sell the Criterion theatrical version and use the Plain Archive edition for that cut of the film...

ARGH MONEY!

ZDT was announced (just like Oldboy and King of Pigs), but they are also working on other projects that seem to be slated to come out much earlier, like Rush and I Saw the Devil Steels. They might not be included the numbered series, though.

I think they're doing what Criterion is known for, tease a film but release it whenever they have time or get to it, and not so soon after it's teased.

Y Tu Mamá También is a perfect example of this format. It's been teased for years by Criterion and is barely coming out now.

It's funny you should say that, as I was going to ask if PA is the new Criterion with they way they annouce titles.

For those who want to collect from the beginning, this is currently the PLAIN ARCHIVE numbered titles:
1) Melancholia
2) The Wrestler
3) King of Pigs (not yet released)
4) Blue is the Warmest Color

ZDT, I Saw the Devil, Oldboy, and Rush all seem to be steels produced by PLAIN but made for other companies.

Thought that could change.

Just like the DVDPrime Melancholia edition, Blue is the Warmest Colour appears to also be produced by Plain for KD Media (KimchiDVD?):

I think I like their exclusive cover better because it mimics the cover of the graphic novel.

Oh yeah, I agree fully! I just thought I'd add the KD Media for the sake of completeness.

And with that said:

Pretty sure ZDT and I Saw The Devil are supposed to be Plain Archive releases. Old boy and Rush are Plain designs being created by other companies.
