Looks really good and should deliver the goods a lot more than the previous movie, which was good on first viewing, but gets weaker and weaker with each subsequent viewing.

The 2nd trailer's 3D looks a little better than that teaser trailer anyway. I'd gauge it around a range of mild to medium 3D. Wish it was strong 3D, but what is here looks decent for 3D.

The movie looks interesting and I'll check it out in 3D theaters.

3D is not worth it. No real "pop", and the glasses made the movie almost too dark to see.

From the reviews I've been reading, the 3D has been praised as some of the best in a while.

I watched this today and enjoyed the 3d in it. While nothing spectacular it still beats it flat.

Was this one converted?

Nope. Like The Amazing Spider-Man it's an example of a natively-shot film that just used very little interaxial distance between the cameras and is therefore quite shallow.

I can't comment for the final film, but the trailer shown in Australia had jaw dropping 3d imho (Australia often gets there own trailers though). I shall be viewing this film in a week or so and shall know if they just made the trailer look stunning.

Did you see the film already? I'm still gonna see it in 3d and go in with an open mind, as I saw some 3d shots in the last trailer that looked super strong and jawdropping. Plus from the interview I read with Matt Reeves, I have major respect for what he was trying to do and it's truly awesome that the end 3d result and shooting in native was worth it for him. Think about it this way, whatever 3d flaws are in his first 3d movie will ore than like.y be rectified when he shoots in native again for Apes 3 plus more quality directors being brought into the fold and filming in native 3d will further the cause for 3d and legitimizing 3d and using native 3d rigs imo

No actually, that was an admittedly premature statement based on the trailer. Honestly though I have no plans to see the film.

I'm debating seeing it in 3D. I love 3D, but I've never been to one of those large screens (DXL?) and Dolby Atmos audio. But I still might swing for 3D. Trailer in 3D looked good.

I saw this today. Great movie. 3D on the other hand was not very good at all. I took my glasses off quite a few times and the movie was watchable without the glasses.

Any more opinions on the 3D? I'm going to watch this tomorrow morning.

I really enjoyed the story as fun sci-fi escapism. There were a lot of clichés and questionable plot devices, but it was endearing and full of emotion, so the flaws were easy to overlook.

The 3D was some of the worst I've seen in a while. The entire film is story-boarded like 2D without regard to z-axis motion. Intimate dialogue scenes, which comprise about half the runtime, were super flat with very shallow depth of field. Non-dialogue scenes had slightly more parallax and roundness, but still not enough. Even the CGI models were too flat. Action scenes were all fast motion and cutting. I can't think of a single benefit of watching this in 3D. Nothing was memorable or good-looking. Most of it was flat and smushed and blurred. Might as well have been 2D.

Total waste of native 3D rigs in the hands of 2D filmmakers. Conversion would have looked better.

Movie - 4/5
3D - 1/5

Damn is the 3D really that bad.
I have seen people say Transformers had bad 3D and those that say that must be completely out of their mind and can only be trolling to make 3D look bad. Transformers 4 is one of the Best 3D releases out there

Thinking about it, I did like a shot of some apes swinging on the Golden Gate Bridge that lasted about one second and induced a little vertigo. It could very well have had a similar effect in 2D though. The flat, blurry dialogue scenes actually made me wince three or four times. What an ugly mess! Overall, it wasn't worth the brightness trade-off for me. Worst 3D I've sat through since Priest.
