Default Say it ain't so, Joe

The old saying 'Yo Joe' is on its way to being a thing of the past. Attempting to make a new movie about the action figure, Paramount is changing G.I. Joe's name to an acronym standing for (not kidding) 'Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity' and making him part of an international force because 'it's a tough sell---American heroes'. Everyone loves an entity, right? Mitchell Paige was the Medal of Honor recipient in WWII for his efforts in the Battle of Guadalcanal on October 26, 1942, where, after all of the other Marines in his platoon were killed or wounded, he operated every working machine gun that he could get to, creating the illusion that there was still a large U.S. fighting force. He single handedly stopped two entire Japanese regiments en route to victory. He chuckled when Hasboro Toys wanted to use his face on an action figure years later, but he gave it the go ahead anyway--under one condition: That G.I. Joe was ALWAYS a United States Marine. Paige died in 2003---nothing like stomping on the grave of a war hero, right Paramount?

What's sad is that a room full of well-paid marketers came up with 'Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity'.

In addition, guess who purchased G.I. Joe? This update is stupid. Transformers succeeded in getting the 20-35 year-old male to go out to the movies and G.I. Joe is no different.

However, Paramount will obviously produce a politically correct version to appease all the poofs that think they are enlightened for criticizing a movie premised on a child's toy.

Sometimes people need to leave well enough alone.

P.S. COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBRAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!

I'm afraid that American rah-rah is a tough sell around the world from a marketing standpoint these days.

Be far more concerned that they will make that abomination of a script on Latino Review, and that they will blaspheme it as hardcore as they did Transformers

I'm not sure why it was a story then either. Are people really surprised that the world at large doesn't want "American rah-rah"? Does patriotism really render people that naive? Answer: apparently. Why is this thread even here? Is it because every story that could be perverted into "Paramount Sucks A Fat Dick" is now Blu-ray talk? Seriously. SERIOUSLY. NO REALLY.

They signed on Sienna Miller to play the Baroness, so I'll be there, regardless of how bad it is.

Taken from the Glenn Beck show:

Yo, Joe! He'll send a letter wherever there's trouble, GI Joe is there! GI Joe, international hero, GI Joe is there. It's GI Joe, bargaining with the enemy, talking to save the day. He never succeeds, he always fails. Your coffin, he's the final nail. GI Joe, international hero, GI Joe is there. GI Joe is the code name for the United Nations cavalry minimally trained special discussion force. Its purpose, to defend the human freedom of Cobra, an unfairly categorized terrorist organization determined to be properly understood. He'll never give up because he'll never start. It just would not be fair. GI Joe, international zero.

Seems this move by Paramount is highlighting the concerns of having to serve a world market.

But, they could put G.I. Joe the Marine in a multi-national strike force or something. I don't see why his history needs to be destroyed.

I agree, this is a disgrace to every member of the armed forces. Yes, it's just a toy, but it's what the toy represents, and to whom it was modeled after to honor his heroics. This is sad commentrary on what the United States is turning into... Right in line to turning over our sovereignty to a world court.
