You can't record a movie on a blu-ray disc using a ps3, can you?

No, sadly the drive is not writable. Which is a shame, a recordable drive could have been used to create CD's from downloaded music, etc.

But alas, you'll need a PC with a blu-ray recordable drive in it, PS3 is compatible with home made discs of all types though (aside from hd-dvd of course)

Even if it had bd-r/rw features, anti sony fan boys would still think it wasnt worth $600

It's nice to know that you'll be able to use the ps3 as a blu-ray player, but you can't use it as a blu-ray recorder. How could you? blu-ray recorders aren't even out yet, let alone finalized.

There are some BD recorders out in Japan.

im pretty sure if the whole linux-on-ps3 thing takes off we're gonna see a new version of the ps3 that comes with a recorder. it may even turn out that it'd work with just any pc drive and you could change it yourself.

That is true, but the recorders aren't out here in the States.

Even for several years!!
But I don't think they're compatible with the latest BD specs... Or are they?
