Thumbs up Who else would love a Blu-ray of 'It' (1990) ?

The 25th anniversary for the film is coming up soon, so hopefully we can get It on Blu-ray finally.

A friend of mine on Facebook/YouTube designed this cover/slip art:

Really well designed by him, in fairness!

That looks so awesome I'd buy it even though I've never seen the film.

Yeah definitely, there hasn't even been a decent DVD release of it as far as I know! It's such a shame, cos it's one of the better Stephen King movies.

I'm confused why someone would put that annoying "Watch it anywhere" thing on a custom slip though.

It's not actually a film, it was a mini-series. It would depend on how it was originally shot and edited whether we see if we get a BD or not. If the elements are on film then iConform can re-edit the shots but I'd imagine the effects were tape based.

Barry has a fantastic talent. Never saw that artwork for the movie before, either.

As for the film, I don't think too much of it and, as Chip75 said, I don't think it'll benefit from HD.

My second favourite 'King on TV' behind The Stand.

Storm of the Century was good as well, and obviously Salem's Lot.

Always preferred SK mini-series to movie adaptations tbh.....

I'd love It on Blu-ray, it's one of my favourite King stories.

I imagine it will definitely be out at some point, even if we have to wait for the cinema release of the upcoming remake.

Rewatched this recently for the first time in geez 10 years +
Though the second part had its moments...I can only imagine what it could've been had it sustained whatever it is that makes the first half so bloody awesome.

What's that line about pets and kids in movies...
I don't know if they were hard to work with, but the results here were great.

Would love to have it on BR.

Late next year it's 25 years since the mini-series Stephen King's IT originally aired on US TV, and I was thinking a Blu-ray release (in it's original or intended aspect ratio) with interviews with surviving cast and crew (along with possible archive interviews) would be welcome.

Watched some of it again recently. It gets shown every few weeks on True Drama (or True Entertainment).

Well, the mini-series was certainly done on film, and I'd imagine that was 35mm film (IMDb says so as well), and I don't remember any video VFX shots as such. The ending for example,
[Show spoiler]with the "It" spider-creature, was a miniature and stop-motion
, as I recall. I'm pretty sure everything in the film was done in-camera and/or with opticals, because the nature of the film meant that it was not effects-heavy, and at the time, computer VFX would have been significantly expensive.

I have to disagree, Phil. This was basically done as a long format film, and I think it wold see all the inherent benefits from Blu-ray that any film of the same vintage and materials would. A new scan, in particular, and the restoration of the scene deleted from the DVD, as well as the restoration of the film's original 1.33:1 broadcast ratio would probably produce excellent results.

The director wanted to shoot this anamorphically but HBO would not let him so he compromised with 1.78:1 instead. Unusual for 1990.
