Default Panny 30 worth getting rid of my sony 300 for the audio?

Ok i have the sony bdp300 and the onkyo 605. My question is it worth it to get the panny 30 which will pass all the audio to my reciever? Is it something noticible? Basically is it worth the upgrade will there ever be a firmware update that will let the 300 do what the panny does anyway? Please help.

I just bought the Panasonic DMP-BD30 for that very reason. I had the Sony 300 and just decided that the Panny was a better deal.

Besides the player, you also get 5 free Blu-ray titles (none of which I want), but will sell them online to net me an extra $75. Selling the Sony to get the Panasonic should be close to a wash since I only paid $440 for it to begin with!

Cool! Do you have a new reciever that does dts master audio and true hd? Can you really notice a difference?

Also kind of a weird question but does it have an eject button on the remote? If so I can program it on my universal remote like the 300.

I think the BD30 is superior to the S300 in just about every way. This should be a no-brainer.

The remote does have a button that opens and closes the tray.

If you have any Fox disks you will want to upgrade.

I love my Sony BDP-300, but my Panny 30 blows it away sound and PQ. Well worth getting.

just curious about this player? I have 2 Sammy 1400's and 2 1000's. I obviously know the 1000's are sub par now since they were first out, but does this Panny 30 blow away the Samsung 1400's ?? I have the 1400's on a 1080P DLP Samsung with a Pioneer Elite receiver and a 1080P Pioneer Plasma with a Pioneer Elite receiver. Just wondering, am I missing something with a player like this over say the Samsung 1400 ? Thanks,

If it were me, I would just sleep better at night knowing I was getting the lossless audio.

I'm sure your speakers have some to do with how much difference there is as far as the audio, but I've also heard that the Panasonic 30 is faster for bootup than either the BDP-S300 or BD-P1400. More like the PS3 (which might be the fastest of all the players). Whether those things are worth the money is a personal decision of course (especially given that players should improve with time and people should decide whether they are willing to continue upgrading frequently).

I just picked up two of these today, have not even hooked them up yet. I have 2 Samsung 1000's and 2 Samsung 1400's. I am going to sell the 1000's and basically replace those with the 1400s and put the two new Panny BD30's on the two tv's where I had the 1400's. Looking forward to these after a lot of good reviews. Hope I can see a difference!

Hi - new here. I cannot start a new thread - but had an audio question on the Panny 30.

I just bought it today and fired it up a bit ago. Wonderful picture! As far as the sound goes - no matter what I do - my audio receiver detects the audio from the Panny as either Stereo or the dreaded Pro Logic. With all of my other devices (HD Satellite, HD-DVD player) - my audio reveice correctly detects and performs Dolby Digital 5.1 just fine.

I noticed in the audio settings - that PCM is enabled, but when I choose "Bitstream" - there is no sound at all.

I have tried both the Optical and Digital Coax outs to no avail.

Am I nuts?

When will I be able to start a thread?

Welcome to the site. Are you using HDMI as your hook-up? Also, which receiver are you using? Sound is my weak point in knowledge of the Blu world, but I think your receiver has to be able to process (decode) the format selected or it won't work.

Thanks for the reply.

I use HDMI to my TV for the video, and I have tried both digital optical and coax to go to my RCA receiver.

It decodes my Directv HD receiver and my HD-DVD and DVD player just fine for 5.1

In fact - the sound on Twister (regular DVD) appears to 5.1 - even though the receiver says Pro Logic.
