Default The DOLPH "THE BEST" LUNDGREN Blu-Ray Official Thread

Let's talk about the most perfect action star here!

So far we got:

Red Scorpion (1988) - his masterpiece. 2 editions.
Rocky 4 (1985) - needs a remastering, otherwise it's fine.
Masters of the Universe (1987) - another great edition.
Universal Soldier (1992) - great edition from Lionsgate.
Universal Soldier: Regeneration (2009)
Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning (2012)
The Expendables (2010)
The Expendables 2 (2012)
Dark Angel (a.k.a. "I come in peace", 1990)
Joshua Tree (1993) - 2 editions.
Men of War (1994) - crappy edition where they also changed the ratio(!).
The Killing Machine/Icarus (2010)
Blood of Redemption (2013)
Johnny Mnemonic (1995)
A view to a kill (1985)
Pentathlon (1994)
Battle of the Damned (2013)
Silent Trigger (1996) - German edition.
Direct Action (2004)
Direct Contact (2009)
Command Perfomance (2009)
Stash House (2012)
One In The Chamber (2012)
The Package (2012)
Ambushed (2013)
The Punisher (1989) - German edition.
Legendary
The Inquiry
A Certain Justice

We absolutely need more.

Love me some Dolph. You're missing a bunch of his newer stuff that is available on blu.

Direct Action (2004)
Direct Contact (2009)
Command Perfomance (2009) - One of my DTV faves, also available in a combo pack with Direct Contact
Stash House (2012)
One In The Chamber (2012)
The Package (2012)
Ambushed (2013)

Granted, his later output isn't as well celebrated but if we're gonna talk Dolph on Blu, you got to seek out the lesser works too.

Ditto on that.
My wife got to meet him at Comic-Con, she said he was very nice, she got a Masters of The Universe pic signed.

I love these DTV movies anyway. Thery are very good and entertaining. Will update my OT.

P.s: 'Command Performance' totally rules.

And France and Australia.

Also forgot to mention THE PUNISHER (great edition from Koch Media for extras, and Anchor Bay for DTS-MA 5.1).

Less known but THE INQUIRY (re-titled "The Final Inquiry") is only available in France. (the movie is not as good has it should but Dolph's acting performance is pretty good and subtle here).

Among recent work there's also
LEGENDARY (France and soon Germany)
and
A CERTAIN JUSTICE (Australia, Netherlands).

NSM Records is release a great mediabook /digibook edition of DARK ANGEL at the end of the month and Subkultur has a good one of SILENT TRIGGER in the work.

Will post my recap of DL's BD editions...

The two films I am interested in really getting is showdown in little Tokyo and a proper release of men of war. I have all of Dolph's classic films available on Blu-ray, red scorpion, the punisher, dark angel, Joshua tree etc.

Bridge of Dragons (1999). I still want this one on Blu. Ridiculous movie with great action scenes from what I remember.

And the US one, but not the Echo Bridge Blu-ray (which after comparison is clearly not just an open matte version since the 1.78 BD lacks left and right image that the 2.35:1 ratio has).

Clearly not when you make the shots comparisons, the 2.35 looks way wider and better in composition.
Btw, I also think the movie has been shot in anamorphic and not Super35, it's too good looking.

It's probably because it's a new 2k scan and some different framing was done. Either way i do like 1.78: 1 version more.

The IMDB list the format as anamorphic but don't specify further. So, not Super 35 then, which I'd read it was, too. Unlike the US DVD, the UK one is the unrated version.

When I stumbled on this thread, I dug out some of my unwatched DVDs. I bought the UK triple Anchor Bay set most recently (KILLING MACHINE, MEN OF WAR, LAST PATROL) and STASH HOUSE. Yeah, I know it's a blu-ray forum but I'm happy to buy DVDs when they're blind buys (and super cheap). STASH HOUSE was $2 and the AB Triple pack was about $10. Anyhow, I watched KILLING MACHINE just now and thought it was terrific. Thanks for rekindling my interest in Dolph's work, what should I watch next? I have 'most anything he's done except the last 7 or so.

If you have The Russian Specialist, give that one a spin. No one talks about it much but it's my favorite of the movies he's directed himself. Just an all around solid effort from Dolph.
