I'm sorry but that just looks terrible. They used one of the most blindingly bad CGI scenes from the movie. They should have just used the statues from the non-extended set. I would have liked the opportunity to pick those up.

A little annoying that there isn't a steelbook or digibook to match the first Hobbit.

That statue just looks weird. They could done something a little more special for this. It would have been cool to have a statue of smaug. I bought the digibook version of the first film thinking they would have digibooks of all the movies. Since they are not, I will hold off on buying any versions of the movies until they release an Extended boxset to go along with the lord of the rings extended edition boxset.

It's Best Buy who usually does the steelbooks & they haven't updated their site yet so there is still hope that there will be another steelbook release for the Desolation Of Smaug Extended Edition.

A statue of Smaug half buried in gold coins would have been cool.

half buried..........no way. A smaug standing with a small bilbo at his feet surrounded by gold would have been better.

Hoping they'll do something like that for Part 3.

Warner really shit the bed on the Limited Edition statues with this film. First, they try to milk us by releasing a statue set w/ the Theatrical Edition, something they've never done before. Now, for the Extended Edition, we get a statue of the barrel chase, which I hated in the movie (it was like watching an attempt at live-action Donkey Kong).

I WANT A ƑUCKING SMAUG STATUE. I HAVE BEEN HOLDING OFF BUYING THIS MOVIE SAFE IN THE BELIEF THAT THE EXTENDED LE SET WOULD COME WITH A SMAUG STATUE. IT IS SUCH A ƑUCKING NO-BRAINER, BUT WARNER BROS. APPARENTLY LEFT THE DECISION UP TO A RETARDED SIX-YEAR OLD WHO WET HIMSELF WITH EXCITEMENT DURING THE STUPID BARREL SCENE AND NEVER WATCHED THE REST OF THE ƑUCKING MOVIE.

Sideshow sculptures are generally much more expensive than the asking price for this collector's edition, and I'm finding it increasingly unlikely that we will ever see a Smaug statue in one of these sets. Maybe at the conclusion of the trilogy a more expensive edition might be released, but I wouldn't hold my breath to be able pick up a Smaug sculpture of any quality for less than $100 anytime soon. I do find it strange that Sideshow hasn't released any kind of statue of him even outside of the collector's edition though, I guess they'll just save him for the last film.

Pre-ordered the 2D Edition, although I am hoping for a UK release.

Is the case a jumbo amaray or a digipak? I've ordered the German edition of this statue and it appears to be a digipak (unlike my French statue edition of AUJ)

No doubt about it. I'm sure SS would be all for doing something like this, but most fans won't want to shell out ~$200 for a statue BD release(I my dumbass would ). I keep wishing someone like Kotobukiya could strike a deal with a major studio to do a few "statue sets". Their PVC statues are quite nice, and a 1/10 scale, heck even a 1/6 could be fairly cheap and have very nice detail.

Now, if I can just get Amazon to ship my damn set to the right location(due to arrive tomorrow), I'll be in business!
