Must admit I haven't seen this. It's a stellar cast, but I'm taking it that this is kind of a dud?

Well, there are already at least two of his out in blu-ray off the top of my head (Lady for a Day and It's a Wonderful Life). Plenty of directors with none.

There are hints over at Criterion that they'll be releasing "It Happened One Night" on blu-ray...as for "Pocketful Of Miracles", it's a day 1 purchase for me as I've had MGM's non-anamorphic DVD for over a decade and have been waiting for a proper widescreen release for this Panavision movie...it's a milestone film in that it's Capra's LAST...and Ann-Margret's FIRST!!! And the cast is second-to-none in talent and star power...

He must have liked this story. "Pocketful of Miracles" is a remake of "Lady for a Day", one of his other titles already on Blu-ray.

"Pocketful of Miracles" was not a dud. It was successful when released. Peter Falk got one of his Academy awards nomination for it. Glenn Ford won a Golden Globe and Betty Davis was nominated for a Golden Globe.

I really like this movie. Bette Davis is good. Peter Falk is hilarious. And Ann-Margret, in her screen debut, is beautiful.

Most "duds" don't get multiple Academy Award nominations as this one did, including a Best Supporting Actor nod for Peter Falk...plus, this was Capra's swan song as a working Hollywood director!!!

And was an incredibly depressing experience for him. Frank Sinatra walked out of the picture, the original studio pulled out, he went into partnership with Glenn Ford to get it made only for Ford to insist his girlfriend be cast in the film and to spend much of the film bickering with Bette Davis knowing that Capra couldn't step in for fear he'd walk and the picture would collapse (Capra always said that one of the main reasons for his retirement was stars having more power than the director). Add to that severe migraines and depression throughout shooting and the film both getting the worst reviews of his career and flopping at the box-office so he never got his full deferred salary and it's fair to say he'd had better days...

BRDC Review Up

Doesn't sound like Kino did this classic justice - bummer punch line : "recommended as the best version we're likely to see".

I watched my copy over the weekend and was quite pleased with the image quality. Another review gave it good marks as well:

I don't trust DVDBeaver - but I do appreciate your opinion. Must say, their caps of this beat the hell out of BRDC's.

Not sure what's up with the BRDC reviewer.

I trust them, and contribute to their Patreon. They even have notes for the 2020 BFI, which has a much higher video bitrate.

I loved it the first time I saw it on TV and also had the DVD. Finally bought it on bluray a few years back.
