Default Dusty PS3 (Warning Not For The Faint Of Heart) High Res Photos

Well been a year for my PS3 and I decided to take a look inside. We all know that our Playstations are a dust magnet. But how dusty does it get inside? Well lets take a look. Remember I have had this unit for 12 monhts.

To my Surprise there was VERY LITTLE DUST inside. I have taken my 360 apart aswell and this thing was filthy. I had the xbox for 7 mo. before i took it apart. So really im very happy with how well this thing keeps dust out, considering how much it collects outside.

Better out than in! How do you have your PS3 setup, is it in an entertainment stand, standing up or laying down? Just curious. Thanks.

the point of this thread was to show people have nothing to worry about dust collecting inside

Compared to a year old PC, this is next to nothing. It looks like Mr Sony has done a good design job on this unit. Maybe I'll reassess my thoughts on buying one.

I wouldn't be surprised if the fan helps with the dust as well.... tons of air moving around when its on high speed for sure !

So, essentially, what you are saying is that keeping the system on and running FOLDING@HOME keeps the dust that passes through from settling? That actually makes sense! The more you use it, the more air will keep the dust in motion as it passes from one end out the other.

Keep your PS3's clean folks... FOLD@HOME when you aren't using it!!!

Surprisingly VERY clean, I'm amazed! I'm so used to opening up PCs and pulling dust bunnies, and blowing big clouds of dust into the air that it's refreshing to see a machine that doesn't seem to attract so much of it. The engineers at Sony definitely did a good job with this one.

I think the larger fan can actually move more air at a lower RPM.

maybe thats why they made the outside a dust magnet, too keep it from entering the inside.

actually it was wierd the housing is made from see through plastic. sorta reminded me of looking through a tinted bike helmet.

i also dust my ps3 regularly. about twice a week. so i was shocked i was expecting a collection of dust. but a few quick blows and it was done. i even had my compressed air ready but no need for it.

well if people are like me i hate dust inside my electronics (#2 cause of electronic failure. #1 is microsofty). and i know there are warranty issues, but now a days so many parts are available to the masses i pretty much just take care of everything inside of my stuff. cause we all know dust just creates a blanket.

This goes to show that the guy with the "dusty" PS3 was either a dirty slob or one of the shills MS paid to paint a bad picture on SCE, or both.

Opening it does void warranty. However the OP already had his for a year so the warranty period is over.

you need a to take the warranty sticker off above the HDD. then you take the rubber feet of exposing a torx screw. after thats off you slide the cover off exposing six phillips. take those off and take the casing off, you need lift from the back to snap the fornt off. then reverse when your putting it on. it does void the warranty but like i said its cheaper to fix on your own when warranty is over.

Thanks for the info from you and the previous poster above. I think I'll wait until next summer to try this so I don't void the warranty. I really have no reason of going in other then me being curious and liking to take things apart and put them back together.
