Vellimoonga (English: Barn Owl) is a Malayalam political, romantic comedy film directed by Jibu Jacob. The movie has Biju Menon and Nikki Galrani in the lead roles. The film was released on September 25, 2014 .Vellimoonga came without any noise and surprised everyone with the good content and the resulting superb response.

Not on blu-ray, but I saw Vellimoonga on Hotstar in the weekend. It's a reasonably pleasant middle of the road entertainer, though with less bite than I would have desired.
Biju Menon is Mamacha, a local political fixer that by clever timing steals the thunder from his many political rivals, including those in his own party. For some time he has been on the cusp of making a bigger political splash, buttering up Delhi bigwigs in anticipation of that big break. In a not particularly well-crafted scenario, Mamacha is also a middle aged bachelor that one day falls in love with a 20 year younger girl (Nikki Galrani, I assume an import) who happens to be the daughter of his old schoolmates (Siddique and Lena). Mamacha juggles his political ambitions with his awkward crush aiming to get a happy ending in both scenarios. I personally feel that a dedicated political lampoon would have been more consistently entertaining. Here, time is divided between the local political goings-on and the never convincing romantic chemistry between Mamacha and the girl (she tells him that her father is the main objector to their union, but doesn't share much of her own feelings...unless it is the pragmatic outlook of marrying a promising moneymaker politico?). There is the added twist of the girl's getting engaged to another guy (Asif Ali), but this has a very predictable outcome. VM is not bad - you have very talented performers and a good number of the jokes land, but even in its around 2 hour length displays the stress of being divided between two narratives and not doing proper justice to either one. The consequence is a lukewarm film that is pleasant but not memorable. ![]() |

Late query but was this actually verified? The back of the discs clearly lists ABC, so it should play on any region player.
