Sounds like this'll be a disc I throw in a lot run at some point.

A little bonus mention here: Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino are gods to me.

That is all.

Pacino and DeNiro were both great actors. But that was a long time ago. Name a good movie from either since HEAT. I can't think of one. Pacino especially has just been awful.

I loved Scent of a Woman with Pacino. I think that came after Heat but I'm not sure.

You don't like Meet the Parents with Deniro? What's wrong with you Focker?

Pacino:
-Donnie Brasco, Insomnia, The Recruit
-honorable mentions: City Hall, Devil's Advocate
-haven't seen his last two yet

DeNiro:
-I'd have to look him up on imdb just to try to remember all the great films he's done in the last decade but here are a few: Ronin, Jackie Brown, CopLand, 15 Minutes, Men of Honor
-can't wait to see him in the big screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Stardust next year

Just about every movie mentioned in the last several posts will be no brainer purchases for me at first crack.

Repeat: Pacino and DeNiro are gods to me.

Go to www.imdb.com and punch their names in the search engine and see what you come up with.

They haven't done anything nearly as great since Heat, but they've both done some solid stuff since then.

Movies have been subpar for them since Heat, for the most part, but nothing can ever take away from their TALENT.

Look at Chad's post above mine. If you don't like some of those movies, at least, you need to get some help, son.

Hell, even as recently as Recruit and Two For the Money, Pacino hasn't been half bad.

The Score with DeNiro and Ed Norton. I'm amazed Chad didn't mention that.

Scent of a Woman was 1993, a few years before Heat, but that's an amazing movie.

They both do need to get into some better material again, though. No question about it.

De Niro is my favorite actor. Here's some of my faves:

GoodFellas - best movie ever
A Bronx Tale - second best movie ever
Casino - third best movie ever
Analyze This - fourth best movie ever
Analyze That - yup you guessed it, fifth best movie ever

Also noteworthy:

Raging Bull
Heat
Awakenings
Meet The Parents
Meet The Fockers

As for my favorite Pacino films:

Heat
Devil's Advocate
Insomnia
Scarface (if only for the last scene)

Pacino has kind of fallen into "I must have a scene where I yell in every movie" roles but he's still fun to watch.

PS: Just noticed on IMDb.com that there's a Heat video game in the works for next year.

Yeah, I've been reading about that.

The gun fight and bank robbery scene is basically the inspiration for the whole thing.

I hope it's a good game. It damned well better be!

That was one sick shoot out scene. Purely awesome. I liked when Kilmer was switching from side to side shooting his machine gun while hiding behind the trucks. One of the best robbery type movies IMO

I've never seen Heat, but all of this talk here along with the fact that I've never heard anything bad about it besides the length, means that I have to see it. Unfortunately at this point I'll be waiting for a HD version to watch.

You need to see this modern cinema classic ASAP.

The newer DVD they put out a few months ago is gorgeous. Rent it, at least.

Then buy it in HD later.

Brian needs to make it happen by physical force if necessary.

ill be honest, wasn't thrilled with heat. BTW... notice pacino and deniro's faces were never in the same shot? one or two standins. my understanding is that they can't stand to do scenes together anymore.

as personal favorites when it comes to modern cinema classics, i am a huge fan of fight club and usual suspects.

I remember not being that thrilled with it back in the theater, but that was largely due to having completely false expectations.

The trailers had made it look like it was going to be more action oriented, so I was prepared for that vs. a serious crime drama/character piece.

Repeated viewings easily made me love this thing.

Try it again sometime.

Completely untrue. The making ofs on the newer discs show them in the same scenes, at the same time, and having a good time, to boot.

well after everyone crush on this movie, i may have to. i did watch it only once on DVD, but i was equally expecting an action shoot 'em up movie.

you got me there. this was def due to reads on various sites, rumors or what not. since i had seen heat once and couldn't recall face shots of both men in any scene, i just made the next logical assumption.

thanks for putting my foot in my ass. i will go visit the proctoligist now.
