If you want interactivity with the internet to be successful the Profile 2 players need a wireless internet connection. These days its all about wireless (such as the PS3) hard wired connections are out of fashion. What do you think?
Edit: When I wrote wireless I also meant that it should also have a wired outlet (like the PS3). Last edited by PaulGo; 11-28-2007 at 07:58 PM. |

I agree....I'd love to see all players with built in WiFi.

I think both types is ideal (a la PS3). I currently use wifi for my PS3 because (like most people) I don't have Ethernet socket anywhere near my TV (despite the fact that I have numerous Ethernet sockets throughout the house).

The wireless option is nice, although it would add to the cost of manufacture.
Of course, the individual can implement an ethernet bridge that can create a defacto wireless setup for the cost of $50 or so and a little network knowhow. Bogdan |

I prefer to have a wired option personally. Having said that, if wireless were the only thing available, then that would work for me too. Having either would not make me more or less interested in any given player.
Other items such as video/audio quality and audio codecs supported internally or capability to bitstream are the deciding factors for me. Of course, overall performance is very much important as well. |

not needed..... I don't see why internet connection is useful. I do my PS3 firmware upgrade by downloading it to my PC first (to confirm it's the right size and files), and I can just do the same with BD player that I will have in the future)

WIFI adds to the cost. Let consumer make the desion. Would be bad for someone to have to pay for WIFI if they happen to have an internet connection near their player. If they want WIFI, just purchase the antenna seperately.

Profile 2 offers interactivity with add-ons through the internet to "enhance" your viewing experience. To use this feature you need to connect to the internet. If you were going to uses this feature would a wireless connection be useful?

a wired model, myself.
But the question is, in general and as I understand it, "Would a wireless option help the BD 2.0 players sell better?" I believe the answer to that is, "Absolutely." As long as the inclusion of wireless does not eliminate the wired port (100baseT minimum). Do I believe wireless is absolutely necessary for BD 2.0 players to sell? No. Do I believe b/g is fast enough? No. You'll need n by the time this becomes a common option in stand alone players. (Remember there is much more to n than just higher bandwidth.) Do I believe that *anyone* with the option of a wired connection should *ever* use a wireless connection? No. (And this comes from the guy who has many, many wireless filings with the FCC and ITU.) |

Since I already have the bridge and hub to use with my D*, receiver and BD wireless is not important ot me.
