Sony's PlayStation Blog announced on Monday that Hato Moa's pigeon dating simulator Hatoful Boyfriend will get a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita release in the second quarter of 2015.
In the game, the player is a human female who is seeking to fall in love with a pigeon at a school for gifted birds. The game features portraits of every bird that suggest what they would look like in human form.
The blog streamed an introduction video.
North American video game publisher Devolver Digital released the game digitally on Steam in English for Linux, Mac, and Windows. The game launched on September 2 after a delay.
The original otome game (romance games for female players) began as an April Fool's joke that inspired a free downloadable version in July 2011. A Hatoful Kareshi Plus updated release launched in August 2011, and a full version of the game was released in October 2011. Hato Moa released an official English patch for the game translated by Nazerine in 2012. The Hatoful Kareshi HolidayStar sequel debuted in December 2011.
Hato Moa released three Hatoful Boyfriend drama CDs between 2011 and 2012. A manga adaptation launched as a webcomic in 2012, and publisher Takeshoboreleased a compiled book volume in 2013.
Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star, the sequel to avian-themed visual novel Hatoful Boyfriend, is heading to PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC this fall.
Holiday Star will have you returning to series creator Hato Moa’s bird-dating world, this time with a holiday theme, meaning you’ll get to visit winter wonderlands to find romance with familiar faces and completely new ones.
You can also expect anime-inspired magical girl transformations of your pigeon boyfriends, lab-grown birds who attempt to steal Christmas, and a mysterious King of the Holiday Star. Also promised are episodic side stories to explore including Ryouta and his radio show.
Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star is being developed by Mediatonic with Hato Moa and published by Devolver Digital. It’ll be presented in high definition with hand-drawn scenery and a new watercolor world.
Hato Moa, the developer for the Hatoful Boyfriend game, announced on Saturday that Hatoful Boyfriend will no longer be available for purchase on the PlayStation Store, and on iOS and Android, after the end of May. Players who have already purchased the game will still be able to play it.
The game will continue to be available for PC and Mac via Steam.
