Default Wild Hogs BD Review

I have just read Martin Liebman's review of Wild Hogs on Blu-ray.com. He says that it is a good movie, and gives it 4/5 stars, plus 5 stars for both PQ and SQ

I haven't seen the movie, because I was given to believe that it was a load of hogwash (pun intended) and I passed up the chance to buy it in the recent Amazon BOGO sale, but I am now a little confused after reading Martin's review.

Rotten Tomatoes only gave it 15%, and Peter Bracke gave it a poor review.
It fared a little better at the IMDB website, with 6.1/10

Anyone on the forum seen this movie? If so what are your thoughts. Am I missing out on a must buy BD, or should I leave it alone?

The movie was a fantastic comedy. I didn't see it in the theater so didn't know what to expect when we got our Blu-ray. It's an enjoyable Blu-ray worth buying. And I agree with Liebman's review of the BD.

Thanks for your reply Whippersnapper. It seems like I am missing out. Will probably buy it in the next BOGO sale.

Remember the Actual Movie score should NOT be counted towards the overall rating, as everyone has different tastes.

Me, I bought it as a blind buy, then swapped it for another movie. Thought the movie itself was waaaaayy over rated.

the PQ and Sq are fantastic though.

It's barely passable for a comedy. There were very few chuckles and they were definitely far between. I have no doubt it looks and sounds great in BD, but if you really want to see it just rent it so you won't have to worry too much.

I agree,

I am a fan of Martin Lawrence, Tim Allen, and John Travolta. I did not like this movie and I watch any movie with an open mind. Have not seen the BD version but rented the DVD when it came out. I have herd it has great PQ and AQ, but the movie itself is just not very good. got a 15% score from Rottentomatoes.com:

The "gay panic" humor is so rampant that it's reasonable to wonder if cast and crew members wrapped each shooting day by beating up a homosexual off-screen.
Rent this one first.

This is the movie that made me realize that AVC coded can be awesome compared to VC1. All along I used to believe that VC1 was great but I guess it was because the earlist BDs most of them were in MPEG2 and werent that great in PQ. This one is excellent and for me I loved the movie though

Are you a converted HD-DVD enthusiast or a Neutral supporter...or do I have you pegged all wrong? No offense meant btw...just asking.

Grisle, I have never owned an HD DVD player. Infact the last time I used a Toshiba product, it was a laptop and I was not impressed because of its failure rate. I have always had PS and so I have been with sony all these years. What I wanted to say was the differences between the video codecs. I know bit rate matters but if you check a movie like Knight Tale, it is not so much impressing in PQ. All the first 7 discs that I had in BD were In MPEG2Then I bought Deja vu, it is VC1 codec and because the PQ is great on this one I thought maybe VC1 was a better codec. Now most of the BDs I have recently bought are all AVC and to tell you the truth I am always satisfied when it comes to PQ. Check both Wild Hogs and Apocalypto. The movie itself is in AVc and the extras are in VC1. You will see the diference. I dont know whether it is due to the way they were compressed.

IMO I thought the movie was a good comedy, well above the realms of Are we done yet?. The family have watched it several times as the kids love it. It has one of the most simple plots out there, four guys fed up with their everyday lives hit the road to be free, calling themselves "Wild Hogs"

I would give it a shot and use your own opinion, I dont think you will be bored with it.

Does anybody know who reviews these movies at RT, what is their demographic(old, male, female, middleaged.....)
I think that has alot to do with how a movie is reviewed.

Rottentomatoes is a mix of 100s of critic's reviewing each movie. Not one particular demographic. So it represents a good sample for a movie review.

Wild Hogs gets a thumbs down from me. There weren't nearly enough laughs. Also, the "gay panic" humor was a little too much.

My advice: definitely rent it first.

Yes, it's one of those movies you either love or hate--no in between. If your older and ride a bike, then you'll love this movie. My wife and I laughed most of the way through it.

Not the greatest of movies, but a good diversion. Rent 1st and then make a decision. Redbox only $1.00.

Well if Are we done yet is the gatekeeper for comedies then I'd have to say Rescue Dawn, Apocalypto, and My life are good comedies too. Are we going to say a movie is a good thriller just because it's better than "I know who killed me"?
