![]() ![]() Amy Winehouse Back to Black On October 30, 2013 Universal Music released Back to Black as part of its High Fidelity Pure Audio line of Blu-ray's. The disc is audio-only and includes a voucher to download the album. "Addicted" an ode to marijuana exclusive to the UK release of the album is included. The original cover art is used as opposed to the alternate photo used for the American version. The track list is as follows: 1. Rehab 2. You Know I'm No Good 3. Me & Mr Jones 4. Just Friends 5. Back To Black 6. Love Is A Losing Game 7. Tears Dry On Their Own 8. Wake Up Alone 9. Some Unholy War 10. He Can Only Hold Her 11. Addicted Audio is taken from the original master tapes and mastered in 24-bit/96kHz resolution. There are multiple choices for audio playback. These are PCM 2.0, Dolby True HD, or DTS-HD Master Audio. * * * * * UK songstress Amy Winehouse became a household name outside of her home country with the release of her second album, Back to Black. Eschewing the relaxed jazz of her debut Frank for girl group inspired soul, the album also saw Winehouse's lyrical themes take a dark turn. Subjects of tumultuous relationships, mutual infidelity, loneliness, and, yes, drug abuse are at the wounded heart of the album. The production by Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson recalled classic soul and r&b while fitting the unique moodiness of the lyrics and Winehouse's sultry singing. Despite the critical accolades and worldwide fame, Winehouse's life continued to spiral out of control with her personal life and battle with hard drugs replacing her music as topics of discussion in the press. Rumors of a third album persisted for years, but were quashed when the singer died in 2011 (contrary to popular belief, alcohol was the cause, not illicit drugs). Her idiotic choices as well as the media circus surrounding them don't diminish what is a brilliant artistic statement. Back to Black spearheaded a revival of soul music and its memory will last longer than the caricature that its author became. That's what I think, at least. What do you think, about the album and about this release in particular? Let us know. |
