I want to see I am legend in imax (mostly for the 7 minutes of the dark knight
![]() I've only seen something in imax one time 10 years ago and it was when i was on a field trip during school to the new jersey liberty science center. now in this theatre the rows of seats starts at a low level and gradually went up in height and i sat in a row that was about 3 quarters of the way up and i remeber thinking how amazing it was. all i remember from the film was a plane going through the grand canyon or something and i thought i was going to fall out of my seat it was weird but cool. now what i want to know are all imax theatres like this because i live on long island and i would have to go to the AMC Lowes imax theatre in NYC and i would hope its like the same setup as the liberty science center in jersey so actually all i want to know is the imax theatre in NYC like this Last edited by dipset420; 12-03-2007 at 02:25 AM. |

Unfortunately they are not all this way, it seems to be the standard for all of the science museums that use IMAX but some theaters tend to just have the larger IMAX screen, but the seating is still the usual stadium style seating. It could vary but my experiences with theater IMAX setups is larger screen with stadium seating. I too am looking forward to the Dark Knight trailer although I Am Legend looks good also. Sorry I can't tell you about the specific theatre, you may just have to call them.
EDIT: Actually it looks like it is, it is described as an eight story IMAX theatre http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguid...ew_york_city-i Last edited by cartier; 12-03-2007 at 02:53 AM. |

ALL IMAX theaters are ultra "cliff-dweller" stadium seating--
There's a lot of screen to cover. ![]() You won't be seeing Dark Knight at the New Jersey center, though, since most museums can't afford the demands of studio profit-sharing-- Judging from my own experience trying to find "Fantasia 2000", you'd have to cross the bridge and try the theater near Lincoln Center, unless there's a newer one in the city. |

wow, the first IMAX theater i went to was at the liberty science center too for a field trip maybe 12 years ago now....from my experience, that was the best IMAX theater i've been too...now the setup there was just like you said, you feel like you could fall out of your seat...that particular theater was in a round shaped theater with the screen was not flat but took shape of the theater and curved so it went around the sides so even your peripheral vision was seeing the screen to the sides (which is why it felt like we could fall out of our seats), whereas the IMAX theaters that play the new releases like I AM LEGEND are just a bigger flat screen...atleast thats from my experience, i went to see Pearl Harbor back when it came out in Toronto on an IMAX theater and thats how it was, same when my brother went to watch 300 at an IMAX in Philadelphia. hope that helps

The IMAX theater at the Liberty Science Center has a dome screen that is 89 feet in diameter. The AMC Lincoln Square theater has a flat screen that is 76 feet wide and 98 feet tall. It's a different experience from the dome, but just as impressive.
And although Liberty does not show Hollywood films like I Am Legend anyway, the flat screen is much better for that kind of film, because it's easier to see the whole picture. Seeing an action film on a dome would be like watching TV with your nose pressed to to screen. |

my issue with IMAX screens is that if you go to watch a movie, you have to get a good seat or you could get a headache and a neck ache.
I saw Harry Potter OotP on IMAX (not 3D alas) but got there with 5 minutes to spar, which meant I got a bad seat. I got a bad headache and my neck hurt cause I was too low and off to one side just enough that it looked bad. I suggest a large standard theater is good enough, in fact better, for most films. I saw Beowulf in digital 3D, on a standard sized screen, and was floored by the quality of the image. It looked as good or even better than my HDTV! And it was in 3D ![]() |
