Germany The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 & 2 3D Blu-ray (2014/2015) [Region Locked]

Moderator note:
The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 was only released on 3D Blu-ray in Germany in a double pack with Part 2 and in a box set including all the films. All discs are locked to Region B and there is no Region A compatible version, or any alternative Region B release. Every other release worldwide is flat.

The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 was released separately on Region B locked 3D Blu-ray in various countries (UK, France, Australia etc) but there was also a Region A locked 3D Blu-ray in Thailand that sold out pretty quickly.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 + 2 3D Blu-ray

Die Tribute von Panem Complete Collection Blu-ray

Die Tribute von Panem Complete Collection Blu-ray

The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 3D Blu-ray (Region A)

The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 3D Blu-ray (Region B)

Original post:
Awesome news that the final Hunger Games will finally have a 3D option. Apparently Part 1 is also being converted, but just for China, yet Part 2 will be everywhere (and likely blu as well)

I'm a big fan of 3D, but this doesn't make sense to me (other than to generate more revenue for the studio). It should've been all or nothing - and Catching Fire would've benefited more with a 3D presentation than Mockingjay Pt. 1.

Imagine when the tributes emerge into the Cornucopia, not only does the aspect ratio change from scope to IMAX, but the movie also changes from 2D to a 3D presentation.

I agree they should have done it earlier, either the first (planning for 3D may have made them minimize the shaky cam which was painful to watch at times IMO) or at least for Mockingjay 1 everywhere (the nighttime raid near the end jumps out to me as a scene which would work really well in 3D). But I'll take what I can get, and thought this news was a pleasant surprise.

Makes absolutely no sense, but hey, it's another 3D title.

This actually makes me super happy! I always thought it was ridiculous that this series was never in 3d in the first place. I remember Gary Ross (who directed the first movie) said the series would never be in 3d I think. Now I can just laugh at his shortsightedness lmao :P

Don't know what to think of this. Love 3d but....kinda want all the target exclusives...but it's not like those even match since the first is a different size but....I'll just have to see what the reviews say. If it's top tier 3d then sure but....average or below then probably not.

I feel like this is the kinda thing that gives 3D a bad name.

Dunno why, but sometimes it seems like films went with 3D as part of a strategy to secure Imax screens and make it into a big event. Can feel like a bit of a cash-grab. Of course it'd be totally naive to think 3D films always opt for the format for purely artistic reasons.

On the other hand, a lot of people will see this, so I hope they make a good job of the 3D and give the audience their money's worth. And it does go to show that 3D isn't exactly being abandoned.

Not much about Part 1 that would seem like it would be served well by 3D but I'm sure I'll snatch it up on Blu from some overseas vendor.

I once asked a local theater if they would consider scheduling one 2D showing on their IMAX screens when they carry a 3D movie. Their response was that they would love to, but IMAX refuses to give their partners permission. I think the only movie that switched between 2D and 3D on IMAX screens was Man of Steel.

It's very strange to do this with only the last part, but it also shows that the industry still has faith in 3D, which can only be a good thing.

I think it was an odd time to go 3D with the series (either should have been the first film, or at least Mockingjay Pt. 1 rather than the second half of one story), but still that's a bummer. I'm guessing Insurgent making less in the U.S. than the first, and how successful Furious 7 was in the 2D only US release but 3D in certain international markets, factored into this.

I don't like to import usually, but I may if there is good word on the 3D and a region free release, as the U.S. always gets screwed with 3D (don't see why they couldn't do a limited theatrical or retailer exclusive home 3D release for those who want it when that version is already available). And maybe it's just me reading too much into things, but it feels a bit worrying that now two films in Fantastic Four and MJ pt2 are canceling 3D releases after previously advertising them (though in the former it seems to be a budget/schedule issue and no just related to the U.S.). At least the four summer 3D releases so far (Avengers, Mad Max, Poltergeist, San Andreas) have all done okay at the box office and with 3D shares (all well above 40%, a couple live action films have been below 35% in the past), so that should be a sign to studios that there still is some domestic interest in 3D.

3d still has a bright future in America though. If Jurassic World, Ant Man, The Martian, Star Wars and many other 3d movies are anything to go by, it's still going to be a fantastic and possibly defining year for 3d and even 3d conversions as a whole. I got the Imax 3D 6 minute preview with Ant Man tonight and that movie is one of the best uses of 3d I've seen in a long time. It just looks stunning.

Personal rants aside, I'm still very excited to see the Hunger Games saga end, as it's been one of the best sagas on the big screen of late. I just really really wish I could see the 3d version of the finale in the U.S. lol

I didn't think as much of the first film, but felt the sequels were big improvements. I'm still excited about the film, but I'm certainly not gonna do IMAX like I did for the first two films when I know the IMAX 3D version is an overseas exclusive.

At this point, only "fanboy" movies are getting the 3D treatment. The studios know that a particular demographic of "never say die" 3D gearheads want to be able to see certain movies in 3D. Those will get the 3D treatment. However, other tentpoles aren't getting 3D, with Cinderella, Tomorrowland, and MJP2 being the obvious examples.

I'd say The Walk, San Andreas, and Poltergeist aren't traditional "fanboy" movies. At least barring no more cancellations (and that's what really ticks me off, not releasing a film in 3D is fine, but I hate them announcing and even advertising it but then pulling back) this fall looks to have an interesting line-up of 3D releases still.

Well, Zemeckis is himself a gearhead.

San Andreas and Poltergeist are quite obviously fanboy movies.

Come on, the writing's on the wall. Universal didn't even bother releasing Seventh Son on 3D BD.

Well i haven't seen any of the sequels, only the first movie which i didn't like. I would rather an all or nothing approach though from studios to be honest but as it's a franchise i'm not fussed about, i guess i'm not fussed!

Sorry for The Hunger Games fans who were looking forward to this.

The first movie is by far the worst. The second is an excellent film.

3D isn't dying but it is not getting the amount of support it should be getting. As to the poster saying only "fan-boy" movies are coming out in 3D... I don't really agree with that sentiment. However, it's clear Hollywood's main focus is only to release certain perceived tentpole movies with 3D in the US. There could be more support.

The Walk probably would not be released in 3D were it not for Zemeckis (as he is a big supporter/fan of 3D). The same goes for other big 3D films like Gravity, Life of Pi, and Hugo. It was because of director's who are fans of the medium championing the format that the studios bothered. If it were just the studio's decision, they would only use it on guaranteed tentpole films.

The decision to not release the final Hunger Games film in 3D in the US is frustrating... especially given the news it is getting a 3D release everywhere else around the globe. Seriously? They couldn't bother to put it out stateside?
