Default The Legend of Zelda (Netflix)

Quote:
“The Legend of Zelda,” one of the most popular videogame series of all time, is in the works as a television show at Netflix.

The video streaming service is in the early stages of developing a live action series based on “Zelda,” about an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda and save a fantasy world called Hyrule, said a person familiar with the matter. As it seeks writers to work on the show, Netflix is describing it as “Game of Thrones” for a family audience, this person said.

The “Zelda” games have traditionally included swords and sorcery, like “Game of Thrones” or “Lord of the Rings,” but typically with a humorous, kid-friendly tone.

Netflix is said to be working closely with Nintendo, the Japanese game developer that has made about 20 “The Legend of Zelda” games since the original, which was released in the U.S. in 1987.

As it is still seeking a writer to work on the series, Netflix has a long road to travel before a “Legend of Zelda” series actually becomes a reality. It’s also possible that Netflix or Nintendo will kill the project before it gets off the ground.

I'll be surprised if this makes it to screens.

But if it happens and its great...I'll be ecstatic.

Exactly how I'm feeling. Park of is really excited, but the other half of me is really nervous. I want this to happen, but it needs to be good...

Err...not sure how I feel about this.

I just can't see any adaptation of TLOZ to be very good. There's something magical that only the video game can convey.

The games are vastly overrated. If the show can make it entertaining then I'll check it out.

I don't think they are. Never had. Can't even finish one of them. Could never see what was special about them. In the minority on that but I don't care.

Maybe the show could keep my interest.

The games are based in nonlinear exploration. The main attraction is uncovering new secrets and places, without constant help from the game's other characters. There's a few spread out in each title, but most of the discovery is left to the player. It takes patience, but if that's not easy for you, I can understand why you don't enjoy the games.

Personally, I'd love to see a successful live-action version...but only if they stick with the more serious fare like the first NES game or "Ocarina of Time". If they end up using the childish "Wind Waker" as a basis, I'm gone.

We don't have enough -quality- Fantasy in medias imo (whether film or TV), so I hope it gets made and is high quality.

What I hope gets made in terms of quality:

Legend

Willow

The Princess Bride

Krull

& what I am afraid it'll end up looking like

WTF?

lol

You think THAT is the main attraction of Zelda games? Uncovering new secrets and places without help? Don't get me wrong I don't know what the main draw is for the game either. If that was the case I wouldn't have issue with Zelda games. I love exploring open world games. I love finding collectibles, without using a guide of course. I also have plenty of patience with games.

I don't like the games because I find them boring. Uninspiring. Very generic. A little too much on the cartoony side. The story isn't interesting. Same as SMB. How many times can you kill the same boss before it gets old? I just don't like the Zelda games. New one looks kinda interesting but definitely not buying a Wii U for it.

If you're so against the games, then why are you trolling around in a thread about a series based on them?

if the show can match the charm and passion of these movies, it can work. If it attempts to pander to then WB "Pretty Little Liars" or "Supernatural" fans, it will fail. Link is a hard role to cast as the character is just so unique, timeless, ageless, and in a strange way, genderless. Since he never talks in the games it will be very difficult to capture the charm and magic of the games. Personally, im not so sure it's a good idea.
