Default "Holidays"- New Horror Anthology from Kevin Smith, Gary Shore, and Matt Johnson

The cast is expected to feature well-known names.

XYZ will launch global sales at the EFM this week. The project is already in production and reteams XYZ with Smith after Tusk and Yoga Hosers, as well as Johnson whose Operation Avalanche will be released by Lionsgate this year.

Also currently on board to helm segments are Scott Stewart (Dark Skies); Nick McCarthy (The Pact); Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch (Starry Eyes); Sarah Smith (The Midnight Swim); and Anthony Scott Burns, whose short, Manifold, made the 2013 Viewfinder List which also included Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash. More directors will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Holidays is a great opportunity for some of the most creative and twisted minds in the genre space today to really let loose and have fun,” said Hegeman. This is the first project going into production for Distant Corners, which aims to launch four-six genre franchise properties annually.

Hegeman will produce Holidays with Tim Connors and Adam Egypt Mortimer, along with XYZ’s Kyle Franke and Aram Tertzakian. Executive producers are Will Rowbotham, writers Andrew Barrer and Gabe Ferrari, and XYZ’s Nate Bolotin and Nick Spicer.

Shore will produce his segment through his company, ArtCastle Productions, with producing partner Jonathan Loughran. Funding for Holidays was secured through James Avery of Aldwych Capital Partners.
A great time to be a Kevin Smith fan. His segment will be titled "Hollow Ian".

World premiere at Tribecca on April 14th, followed by a VOD release the following day(!) on April 15th.

Like the recent NetFlix acquisition of Hush, they're not wasting any time here.

Looks like some of the shorts might wind up being a bit too twee and millennial-oriented (I've got a feeling this'll be Kevin Smith's imput) but as a whole, looks better than a majority of anthology films recently.

Yes, you misunderstood.

Currently on VOD. DVD only (no blu-ray) on July 5th. Probably on NetFlix in the fall.

Every podcast I listened to tore this to shreds. Giving it D- ratings. Swearing off any more anthologies in the future.

I personally kinda liked it. It reminded me of Creepshow and older anthologies. Not too much actual scares, but just really absurd scenarios that turn borderline goofy.

Valentines - B (Mainly due to camera work. Love the way it was filmed, angles, colors, etc. Story was "meh")
St Patricks - C
Easter - C+
Mother's Day - B+
Fathers Day - C
Halloween - D+
Christmas - B-
New Years - B+

Nothing to write home about, but leagues better than the recent Tales of Halloween; and I might have even liked it more than Southbound.

what other anthologies are you referring to? I have seen all of the V/H/S and the first ABCs of Death...the first VHS was decent but thought the 2nd wasnt as good and the Viral one was beyond bad...ABCs was really awful too

confused. are you saying that YOU are swearing off anthologies in the future or the podcasts are saying they are writing off anthologies in the future?

The podcasts I listened to were saying that. Said that they've tried swearing them off in the past, but keep getting sucked in from decent looking trailers or names involved, but always end up hating it and wishing they wouldn't have watched it.

I enjoy anthologies for what they are, and will give anything a shot.

I don't want to try and dissuade you from watching it...but out of 142 films I watched last year...I only saw 3 worse than Tales of Halloween. It was really, really bad.

Now 31 on the other hand...I cannot wait for that.

Edit: I'm not sure why I thought 31 was going to be an anthology...

Haven't seen any of the ABC films.

Really liked V/H/S.
Liked V/H/S 2.
HATED V/H/S Viral.

Really liked Trick R Treat, and marginally enjoyed Southbound.

Easter is one of the best short horror films I've seen in a while. Just all around excellent filmmaking.

I watches Tales of halloween, it had some good stuff. Soundbound was good also. The things with these is they are so uneven. Its nice to see a bunch of different directors around and stuff but i think it would be cool just to see 1 director do a bunch of individuals so it is more focused
