Default Whatever Happened to...Rick Moranis?

Go ahead and check out this article. I found it really cool.

I would the link, but with some many videos on this link, it might be best to read it there.

Interesting article. To be honest, I hadn't thought about where the guy had gone to, but I totally respect his reasons for leaving film. Strange, I'd heard recently that the reason Liam Neeson is in so many movies these days is similar. His wife died so he takes whatever roles come his way.

Every time I see someone from Hollywood put family ahead of their career, its really heart-warming. The only sad part is the fact that so few from the entertainment industry are willing to do it. I don't like seeing people I admire walk away from the screen, where fans like me can't keep track of them...but their families need them so much more, and that's important.

I'm reminded of Claudia Wells, who left acting behind when her mother got really sick. She cared for her Mom for the last few months of her life, then opened a clothing store in Studio City that she's ran for over 20 years. She recently got into voice acting, but hasn't made a full return to on-camera work yet.

That's pretty admirable he left that life to be with his family. On a side note, my brother used to work for trader joes in manhattan and he would see Rick moranis there a few times a week. Usually buying ready made burritos

When you are a multi-millionaire you can walk away and retire whenever you like. It's a perfectly valid choice but not sure how "admirable" it is, considering most of us don't have that option. There also rarely was an actor so typecast in the same role over and over and that's probably not that creatively satisfying anyway.

Assuming all popular actors are millionaires is foolish. Sure, he probably invested wisely, but most of his success was in the days before actors started at $5 million per picture. For example, look at the first "Ghostbusters" movie, which had a total budget of $30 million. I highly doubt any of the main cast got a large percentage of that.

I'm not assuming:

Moranis starred in several big budget blockbusters and two blockbuster franchises, not just the original Ghostbusters.

By the 80s plenty of stars got way in excess of $5 million per picture. It was the decade when money was everything.

Moranis was always more of a character actor but even they get paid well for a major Hollywood picture, especially when it comes to renegotiations for sequels. So while you can't compare his fee to a Julia Roberts or a Tom Cruise, he still got paid way more than the average American, enough to make him a millionaire.

IT never really occurred to me as well until I saw the article.
