So the movie based on the show "Attack on Titan" is being called "Attack on the Titan" — Why do they need the "the" in the title? It's needles extra words. More time spent reading the word and more time speaking the word, over the course of a year adds up to be several hours of your life wasted just for a single word. If they take the "the" out, they will be freeing up so much of our valuable time.

Just my two cents.

same reason "all you need is kill" was changed to "edge of tomorrow" and then the marketing campaign slogan of "Live. Die. Repeat." also became the title.

that reason is merica!

I hope this means that Sony got the rights for the two live action movies, and not that they're making their own AoT movie.

I'll take a pass on any Live Action AoT movie thank you, Japanese or otherwise (they are going to be not great).

Because native English speakers tend to value things like grammatical correctness.

The original title is pure Engrish nonsense.

I also think it's a good thing, in that it helps set the movie apart from the anime in some small way.

But the new one makes it sound like there's only one Titan.

Maybe they should change the title to Attack on the Titan: Attack of the Titans.

Attack on Titan is grammatically correct. Attack on THE Titan might be as well but it's overly specific and clunky. At least Attack on Titan makes it sound like they're attacking a place called titan. Would you ever tell soldiers to attack ON the enemy...you would just say attack the enemy. I think we can all agree that Attack on the Titan just doesn't sound as good as Attack on Titan.

And look at the bright side, even if Sony does make their own movie there's no threat of them whitewashing the cast. That's one thing they basically can't do wrong. We can always count on them to rush a conclusion to stuff in some silly moral message though...

But so does the original...? Or that it's about some location named "Titan". Either way it was always nonsense from an English-speaking perspective.

To be a true description of what the series is about, the title should've been changed to "Attack on the Titans" or, more correctly, "Attack the Titans".

I'm sure this will move forward just as quickly as the Akira and Shadow of the Colossus adaptations.

Now I can be one of those cool, hip young lads who can say they didn't give a damn about the franchise before it went live-action mainstream and all the other cool cats hate it too.

I love how a joke I made about the title, turned into a full on discussion about grammar. I'm awesome.

Kind of makes you wonder what a United States movie adaptation of any given entry in the Fate series would be titled. Fate Stays In the Night? Fate To Stay The Night? Or any TYPE-MOON title, period. Imagine the field day they would have with Future Gospel and Recalled Out Summer. By the time whatever committee responsible with Americanizing the IP is finished, we would probably get Future Summer.

On the non-TYPE-MOON front, Persona 3: Born in Spring, Magical Maddie, Code Mind Control (or how about Code of the Geass!!!), Three Guns, I can keep going.

Scarface32, what have you done.

Sony Executives: "This property is hot, but we're not sure if the public will go for a giant skinless man attacking a city: what if we make it a robot, or a giant cloud?"

They could make the giant, a giant peach. And they could call one of the people James. And they could call the movie "James and the Giant Peach" – What could possibly go wrong?
