Between skipping chapters and watching parts of them I think I saw about 1/3 - 1/2 of the whole movie. The blu ray is region free! (or at least region A & B; it is a Warner blu ray so I am 99% sure it is region-free). It starting playing quickly in my region-A blu ray player. The image is encoded in 1080/24p so there is no PAL-compatibility problems (for both the menu and the actual movie; unfortunately the "making-of" is encoded in PAL, as well as some of the other special features).
The image quality is very, very good. I would give it a 4.5/5. Detail is great in both very, and moderately-bright scenes. The same with shadow detail, it is not lost and it is rendered very well by the encode. Most of the scenes take place in low light and/or contain dark backgrounds, but thankfully the black levels are very good also. The same with the contrast; it is very consistent and well-balanced. The only reason I did not give it a 5 is because a tiny bit of detail was lost; most likely due to the color processing they did on it to give it a bleak look (appropriate for the film). I think most viewers will not even notice it though (I watched it projected on a 114” screen so these small details are more noticeable, and with time I have become better at discerning picture quality).
Now the sound is a beast of its own (and it is in 7.1 DTS-HD MA). It features great dynamic range without any distortion whatsoever. It is aggressive in appropriate scenes and quiet and subtle in others. I decided to change my setup from 5.1.2 to 7.1 to take advantage of all four surrounds (since the audio is not Atmos) and I am very glad I did. They are used to the max without making it seem fake or over-the-top. There's rain, lighting, zombies screaming around, the P.A. system of the ship being used throughout, alarms going off, etc. All sound very realistic and it makes for a great listening experience. I consider it demo material. Definitely a 5/5.
The only subtitles included are in English.
Like mentioned above, some of the special features are PAL-encoded. However, if your player can convert the 50hz to 60hz (or your display is 50hz-compatible) the making-of is worth a look. It actually does contain a very good look behind-the-scenes (sadly it does not have any subs, but worth it just for what it shows, though). A few of the special features are in 24p. I did not go through all of them though.
Overall it is a great blu ray provided you like the movie. Below I have included pictures. Some are pictures of the movie itself, the menu, and the others are of the packaging. The artwork is double-sided, the case is the thick kind and is sturdy.
