Default The Sharp DV-BP1 Review Thread

http://hdtvpolska.com/index.php?showtopic=1912#

Scroll down to pic 20. Now, it says TrueHD but that doesn't mean it's decoding it in the player I would think. It's looking like a rather good player though and these shots are pretty good (As are many others in the thread).

So let me be the first to ask the inevitable: what's the price and release date?

(Hey, my first post on this forum!)

A quick google seach says October 2006:

http://www.dvdcity.com/dvdplayer/sharp-dvbp1.php

Quote:
Available in October 2006, Sharp announces their first Blu-Ray Disc player, the Sharp DV-BP1. A perfect companion to the line of Sharp AQUOS LCD TV's, the DV-BP1 Blu-Ray Disc Player will handle the Sony Blu-Ray disc format, featuring 1080p output via the digital HDMI interface. Also features Component Video output, and 5.1-channel analog and Optical and Coaxial digital audio outputs. Price: $999
It's a bit hard to google much more detail; there's a couple of Korean listings for it but Sharp also has a battery under the same designation so lots of hits for that.

Oh, and good to see you here. Just made it over myself today.

Nice! Another player to keep my eye on. I have to admit this one was flying below my radar. I have until Oct. 14 to decide on keeping the Sammy. The clock is ticking...

Thanks for the info and the welcome (although I feel like I'm cheating on the other format).

Heh heh. It's not cheating, it's a polyamorous relationship!

From everything I've read it looks like it.

If the PS3 can have it and the Panny/Pioneers can be updated to it, why not?

See, what keeps me confused/leery is that a player can have it but it's not specified whether it's decoding it in the player or just transporting it out to be decoded elsewhere. I want it all to be done in the player or I want a receiver to handle HDMI inputs and do it all there.

I'm pretty sure in order to have the logo you must be able to decode it internally.

IMO, if it doesn't have HDMI 1.3 and it still has DD TruHD on the player, then it has to do it internally. Otherwise, it's not DD TruHD capable.

Ah, that's good to know. Is there anything on the Dolby site that has that in fine print or something? I want to be able to have something to reference when I inevitably get questioned on it from my readers.

That said, it's certainly making the Sharp look more attractive. A $300 difference from the Panny could certainly sway me. In a lot of ways, I still regret my first Panasonic DVD-Recorder since I got their first gen one for $1000 only to see them come out with better models quickly and with hard drives.
