Default HD DUD online usage

Guess they're selling a crap load of Evan Almighty toilet paper.

Universal seems to be pushing this. Once this is enabled on Blu, I could see a more favorable environment for Universal to go neutral.

Still, HD-DVD is really reaching for talking points now.

If we can believe their figures, then approaching 1/2 of Transformer's owners have used the web-enabled features. That's fairly impressive if true.

As we've previously reported, the HD DVD camp has been particularly aggressive in rolling out web-enabled features over the last several months.
It's all they got left.

Pointing out that Blu-ray players "don’t have the consistency in their machines to be able to handle this,"
There are more Blu-ray players that could potential do this, than there are HD DVD players.

I think if it was on Blu more people would look at it than admit to it.

I know I used the web features. They're cool but more of a gimmick.

It certainly doesn’t hurt to have them.

I agree. Whether it is a defining feature that hinders Blu-ray adoption, is something different.

If it is shown to be a critical feature, then there is a heck of an incentive by the studios to push for BD-Live support on the PS/3 and to add the feature to titles to satisfy the PS/3 owners. And PS/3 outnumber 3:1 the total HD DVD owners in North America. And then there is an incentive for many more PS/3 owners to adopt Blu-ray.

BD-Live requires 1GB of local storage. Raise your hand if you think that can do more than the 128MB of HD DVD.

I think everyone would LOOK at it. But the question is whether or not they care after looking, and whether it's a selling point

I think the answer to both is no

I tend to agree.

But, if we're wrong it isn't as if this is a critical failure point for BD. 100% of PS/3 are capable of it. BD-Live will do it better.

And, how are people hooking up their HD DVD? Ethernet is not overly HT friendly. The mass market won't be wiring Cat-5.
