Default Galaxy Quest TV show in the works

Quote:
The show would be based on the 199 film.
A TV series based on the 1999 sci-fi film Galaxy Quest is in the works at Paramount Television.

More to come.

This is awesome

It would be excellent if they could get the cast of the movie for the show, but that is highly doubtful.

Love the movie, so hopefully the show pans out. Question is whether the show will be the actual 'Galaxy Quest' show or a show about the actors filming Galaxy Quest (more like the movie)?

Well Tony Shaloub, Missi Pyle and Enrico Colantoni are no strangers to TV.

The movie did end with scenes from a revival of the show... so I would guess a TV series would pick up from that and be the continuing adventures of the Galaxy Quest who have actually sci-fi adventures while filming a pretend TV show as well.

Not sure about this, i adore the movie, one of the best comedies out there. But with the limited budget that TV brings it's going to be badly hamstrung. Part of made it so funny is that takes itself so seriously with great special effects.

I could easily watch Sigourney Weaver once a week Would be pretty amazing if she was a main character.

You know that the main cast would't be back for this, i prefer if they recast everyone rather than only having half of them back in a half hearted way.

It'd be great as a Larry Sanders Show type thing, maybe showing some scenes from the show proper (which would naturally carry meaning beyond just the show itself) intercut with all the behind the scenes stuff. They could gather up all the stories and rumours and general scuttlebutt about actors that's floated around Hollywood for years and make something really scathing but affectionate at the same time.

It's based on a film, have you not heard of it?

Amazon Studios will develop the Galaxy Quest series with Paramount

Entertainment Weekly reports that Paramount Television partnering with Amazon Studios and their streaming service to develop the film Galaxy Quest for a television revival. One of the film’s original writers Robert Gordon will pen the pilot script and executive produce the Galaxy Quest series along with the original director Dean Parisot and producer Mark Johnson. Parisot, a vet of TV series such as “Grace and Frankie” and “Masters of Sex,” will helm the show as well.

It’s unclear at this point whether the television series will be a sequel to the series or a reboot, or if any of the original cast is onboard. Talk of a sequel to the film has been discussed previously though nothing has materialized. A comic book sequel titled “Galaxy Quest: Global Warning” debuted in 2009 and an ongoing series titled “Galaxy Quest: The Journey Continues” is currently being published by IDW.

Released in 1999, Galaxy Quest was conceived as a parody not only of the original “Star Trek” series but of the cult following that series has amassed over the years. The film centered on the cast of an old sci-fi television series recruited by a race of aliens believing them to be the characters they played on the series. The film starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, and Daryl Mitchell.

Another favorite film. That's a waste if it won't be on a real TV channel.

Won't hold my hopes up on it being actually good, considering its Amazon Studios.

I've only watched Transparent but that was fantastic; the Red Oaks pilot was pretty good and I'm looking forward to season one; Mozart in the Jungle got pretty great reviews, as did the Man in the High Castle pilot

The Zombieland pilot was less than stellar, so I'll remain cautious about this for now. I love Galaxy Quest, and I don't want to see it butchered...Also, part of what made it work so much was the cast. I think it'll feel like a shell of its former self without the film's cast. Still, glad to see the original behind the scenes on board. So I'll remain cautious, but optimistic, for now.

Finally some news on the Galaxy Quest TV revival:

Quote:
Writer-actor-comedian Paul Scheer (The League) has been tapped to pen the script for the Paramount Television-produced series. Scheer takes over for the feature film's original scribe, Robert Gordon, who was on board to pen the script for the Amazon reboot.
