Yeah, I just noticed the PS3 sale. Nothing to write home about with that though. It sucks because I was so happy with Walmart doing the PS3 15 Free Blu-ray sale. Now they have to go and do this. I was really hoping they would be leaning towards blu-ray but I guess they will remain nuetral for the time being.

Good for them. At least with free movies it wont be such a waste when HD-DVD stops production.

Yeah, so this actually means 17 free HD-DVDs because it doesn't include the mail in.

But I don't care

Who cares?? Only an a fool would invest money on what's clearly a dying format.

Although if Toshiba does have another fire sale at $98.00 with 10 moviesI will buy one.

Return the movies for store credit then get them in blu and my grandmother needs a dvd player for her tube tv.

That is one player who will never see an hd dvd movie. It will be a loss for Toshiba in so many ways!!!

I doubt this has anything to do with Wal-Mart favoring anyone. I am sure they are reimbursed by HD-DVD and BDA for the free movies. Walmart is a store.. they will sell what they can..especially if the sale is on someone elses dime.. which sales often are.

$298 is way overpriced for a HD player now.

Just last month, the A2 was $99 and the A3 was $199 at different stores.

Toshiba set the price point, now they can't raise the price and expect people to bite.

Actually if you look at the fine print, it says 5 instant, 2 in the box and 5 by mail.

God, 17 movies. This time next year, if DUD if still alive, they will giving away about 1/2 of their catalog with each player, and the players will be free.

It's not 17.

5 free by mail + 2 in the box + 5 free in store = 12 free movies.

Has there been anything actually "secret" about these sales...

Besides, who's going to buy this? The value to HD DVD owners is $98 per player with a boatload of free movies. I think this sale should just reinforce to the HD DVD faithful that Wal*Mart is not doing them any more favors this holiday season.
