Default Batman Begins not ready for Blu-ray?

Warner Bros. has been releasing pretty good titles, staying neutral yet leaning towards blu-ray and even the BOGO deal going on at Amazon.com...but what I can't believe is how it's now December 2007 and Batman Begins is STILL no where to be found on any blu-ray movie release schedule (has been out since October 2006 on HD-DVD).

I don't what they are waiting for, maybe the 1.1 profile is not ready or something else isn't quite right with most blu-ray players yet but if they are planning to wait until next summer when The Dark Knight is released in theaters, than I'm just going to buy myself a HD-DVD player.

This is ridiculous that we have to wait this long for such a great title on BLU because Warner isn't "ready" to release it yet.

I feel your pain and like the rest of us we all want Batman Begins BUT DONT YOU EVER say your going to invest in hd dud you might as well burn your money. It will be on Blu ray soon enough with the best possible PQ and AQ for now watch the DVD upconverted it will be very comparable to a dud.

You're only contributing to the format war by supporting both platforms. If you want to see a single platform prevail, then don't support the other side, period. Those "missing titles" will be available soon enough if their software sales numbers stay low on the "other" format.

Why not at least wait until Q2 of next year before making such a decision? That will let Q4 happen as it may as well as give all studios plenty of time to assess the situation and make changes as they see fit.

IMO, anyone supporting both formats has no room to complain about the war since they are contributing to it.

You are entitled to do as you wish, of course.

I don't think it's worth spending the extra $400 to invest in a dual-format player at this point. Get a good Blu-ray player (either the latest Panasonic http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMP-...6965847&sr=8-2 or a PS3) and you shouldn't have a problem with even the current selection of Blu-rays. Plus, most Blu-rays will give you higher quality sound than DUDs.

Most likely, in a year, Universal will be format neutral and Warner will have those titles out. Save yourself the money and invest in a sound system or more Blu-ray movies.

I didn't I WAS going to buy this dual player. I just wanted to see if I was alone in wondering why Warner Bros. is holding off Batman begins on BLU...

I already have 3 blu-ray players (1 PS3) and DO NOT see myself prolonging this war and buying any HD-DVD player. I was just trying to get my point across that it's not right

It's been known for a while that Batman Begins on BD is being held to tie in with the new movie hitting theaters next July. Expecting anything different and buying HD DVD as a result is rather ridiculous.

I expect Batman Begins will be specifically mentioned by WB at CES starting in early January.

Lets see buy a soon to be defunct hd dvd player for Batman Begins, or get better surround speakers, or about 20 blu-rays.
Batman was a good movie, but it better clean my house weekly if I'm dropping $300+ for it. Especially when WB has assured us that it is coming.

We are probably looking at less than a year. In all reality they will release it to coincide with the release of Dark Knight in theaters. However, if you have waited a year + what is 6 months. Maybe they are waiting to announce it when they switch to being BD exclusive. At least someone at WB is expecting it soon. Although it is probably just a misprint. Its been stated that it was being held back but never confirmed. I see no reason why it needs to be held back once profile 1.1 players are released. Same can be said for the Matrix.

On your second point i hope your right.

The simple fact here is, why would you spend all that money just for those few titles, Batman Begins for example. I also love Batman Begins, and I cant wait for it to come on Blu , BUT if i want to watch it i ll just throw in my DvD and upconvert it to 1080i. That should be good enough to hold you down for a while.

If you have a wierd fetish with Bale in hi def, then i recommend getting the prestige, Reign of fire, or Rescue Dawn until Batman comes out (all great flicks)

Whats ironic is the Warner High Def site has Batman Begins listed as a new title to Blu (and HD-DVD). Maybe they are going to make an announcement soon.

Guaranteed they'll mention its release date after christmas. The BOGO sale of Warner titles is only showing them that their sales on blu are only going to increase, and so they should soon, if they havent already, begin to work on Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, Constantine, A Perfect Storm, and all those other titles that we havent got yet.

I think it’s more the principle of WB releasing titles on one format before another and using the excuse of PiP not available on BD yet, when it was more likely that they have some kind of exclusivity on these titles. The release Casablanca on HD-DVD, it sells badly and then they decide that they won’t sell it on Blu Ray. I hope WB go BD exclusive, hell I have even bought around 40 of their titles with inferior audio in the hope that my purchases will help them decide. IMO they have not been giving BD equal treatment, not by a long shot.

The reason is Warner will make more money if they wait a couple weeks before Dark Knight hits. As a retailer/rentailer I can assure sales skyrocket when a sequel is released and if stuidos time the release of a catalog for the first time on the format with the release of that sequel it would be MUCH bigger than just releasing it in January.

What I don't understand is don't all of you people own the movie on DVD already? How many times are you going to be watching this title when you get it on Blu-ray? It would be different if this was Dark Knight releasing on Blu-ray for the first time because I can then understand why you must own it now (like Transformers) but this is an old catalog title that everyone owns on DVD. I guess I'll never understand it (of course if Starwars was released I'd be first in line anytime to get it).

Awesome! With a new Samsung dual-format player, you can now get your firmware updates late for BOTH formats!
