That artwork is hideous. Art Service have really dropped the ball this time. Fingers crossed they change it for the final product.

Also, the first movie was/is currently being remastered and restored. Probably a better idea to hold off for a bit. Then again, New Dragon Inn got remastered and a theatrical re-release and the restored version has never seen a home video release...

There's a 4K restoration showing at Cannes this month.

Oh, so it's done already. I haven't kept up with Cannes news this year so I had no idea. I'm definitely gonna sit tight now.

Are you thinking of King Hu's Dragon Inn which is getting a Blu ray release later this year in the UK by Eureka (Who also have hinted that the new 4K restoration of A Touch of Zen showing at Cannes may be a future release as well.. )

The artwork is probably going to be the only good thing about that package.

Nope, I'm talking about Tsui Hark's 1992 remake - Dragon Inn aka New Dragon Gate Inn, starring Tony "Not Wong Kar Wai's Boyfriend" Leung, Donnie Yen, and Maggie Cheung. It was back in 2012, coinciding with Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, that the movie was remastered and given a theatrical re-release in Mainland China. There was even a trailer floating around at some point, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Here's the theatrical poster:

I honestly thought they'd cash in on Flying Swords and release both on Blu-ray.

There's a buttload of Region 2/3 DVDs which cost less and have the same or same-ish video quality.

I honestly don't mind the quality, I grew up watching John Woo and Ringo Lam movies. I'll get a 4k edition too when it comes out but this is fine. Plus it's easily available.

I have tried to like ABT3, but failed miserably each time I watch it :P Tsui Hark just couldn't bring the magic from the two previous movies over to this one for some reason. I think it's also because I cannot really connect Mark's character in ABT3 with the one in ABT1. There's just a somehow far distance between those two, that I cannot swallow the fact that he is a prequel character.
