Default UPN's "Rosewell" Discussion (1999-2002)

Believe it or not, there's still fans of this show active on the Internet; I've listened to some continue the series in "radio-drama" form, past the Season 3 finale...and their ideas have been pretty fascinating. I never really liked the show's creative progression though, since they were constantly changing the formula every few weeks after the first half of Season 1.

So, I started this thread as a haven, for those who still like the series. We could chat, post fan pics, share stories or videos, etc. Long live Roswell!

You know, this used to be my favorite show when I was a teenager.

Bought the dvd sets when they were released in 2004 and still loved it.

Last couple of weeks rewatched it again with my partner who had never seen it but likes sci-fi crap so I thought he might like it.

Unfortunately I must now say the show is really bad. Still there are some great episodes, including the finale. And some actors are amazing, but overall it's just a teen show that never really goes anywhere.

Also was sad to hear Mary Ellen Trainor passed away last month, she was the mom in Roswell and actually liked her character on the show.

I do feel this show would be better as a more mature show with shorter seasons, like 12-13 episode seasons. It could have easily had 5 seasons if done correctly.

I remember speaking via phone with someone at the CW, maybe a year after the switchover from being the WB. She told me that if the change had happened sooner, "Roswell" probably would've lasted another 3 or 4 years. Apparently, corporate creative conflicts and an escalating budget were the main reasons it was cancelled. Jason Katims wanted to focus on the characters, but WB execs kept pushing the sci-fi angle. UPN picked it up for the final year, and took the "tech-heavy" approach.

To be honest, as I was a huge fan of the show and have several books about it, there were also a lot of issues among the cast behind the scenes and most of them wanted to leave the show.

It's also one of the reasons it's hard to watch the show now and watching Katherine Heigl. She made it also impossible for me to re-watch the earlier seasons of Grey's Anatomy.

Would love to see Majandra Delfino pop up in more shows.

I never heard about that, other than Colin Hanks being released because he was being offered movies a lot.

I had a huge attraction to Katherine in those days, even buying that Maxim cover and sending a shot from it with a fan letter for her to sign. I never got it back, though.

She's been focusing on her music career, for the most part. Her last acting job was a cancelled sitcom called "Friends With Better Lives", last year.

On a related note, I recall first seeing the trailer for "Guardians of the Galaxy", and thinking Chris Pratt was Nick Wechsler.

I only really like the first season. It was best when it centered on the characters not the sci-fi plots.

I agree for the most part, but the rest of the series had some memorable episodes. I liked the Skins and "traitor Tess" storyline from Season 2, plus Max fighting Michael for leadership in Season 3. My main complaint overall though, is they just couldn't decide what kind of show to make; every season was radically different, and people quit caring.

I'm actually working on a complete series rewrite myself, as a fan project. The first episode's almost done, and if its received well, I'll continue it. Keep your eyes open over the next few days; I'll probably post it on the FanFiction website.

Loved the first season.

Enjoyed the second season.

Third season, meh.

Might have to dig out the DVDs soon though, I really did enjoy those first couple of years.

It seems that Jason Behr (Max) is the only cast member that doesn't regularly pop up on shows/movies at least that I notice.

Majandra Delfino was the same way until she showed up on "Friends With Better Lives" last fall.

He was in the "Grudge" movies with Sarah Michelle Gellar, a sci-fi actioner called "Dragon Wars", and did a werewolf film called "Skinwalkers" several years ago. His last IMDB credit is for a 5-episode stint, in a 2012 TV series called "Breakout Kings".

Another actor from the series that's mostly disappeared is Brendan Fehr (Michael Guerin). He had a brief role in "X-Men: First Class", and another one in "Guardians of the Galaxy"...but nothing major that I'm aware of.

He is one of the main cast members on The Night Shift on NBC. It was just renewed for a 3rd Season.

Great show that I've probably watched through about 5 or 6 times now. Shame it didn't last longer.

Default Roswell 1999-2002: Anyone seen this?

Hey guys, I remember watching Roswell a few episodes when it was originally airing. I know the show lasted 3 seasons, but I know little else.

I want to begin watching the show tonight so I'd like to know:

Is it worth staying with the show until the end of season 3?
Does the show have long story arcs or is more about the stand alone episodes?
When does the show peak in terms of quality?

Thanks!
