Zatoichi (2003, Takeshi Kitano) Lionsgate Blu-Ray Sep 8 2015?

I don't remember this being announced. Lionsgate has the rights to most of Miramax's library, and Miramax released this previously on blu-ray(OOP), so it might be coming out again.

Note: The UK Blu-Ray is better quality than the US Blu-ray. It's unknown which master Lionsgate has / will use.



PS: Why did I type "blu-ray" in the title? Kinda obviously on this forum...

Other retailers show it to be the 2003 film. That makes more sense considering this is a LG release, and the previous was from Miramax (distributed by Disney). It would be great if it were the 1989 one though

Bill Hunt also seems to think it's the '89 film, but I'm not sure if he's basing that off anything more than the Amazon listing

Lionsgate has rights to the 2003 film, they released it on DVD in 2012, and digitally. Apparently this release comes with a Digital Copy as well, which would also point to it being the 2003 movie, as that's the only one available through Ultraviolet. Guess we'll know soon enough.

It's the 2003 movie. There's no way Lionsgate would go out of its way to license a 1989 movie when they are sitting on a ton of catalog titles that they have no interest in releasing or sub-licensing.

Judging from the listing, it's the 1989 movie.

The site credits Katsu and Jinnai, who are both in the 1989 film.

Can't post a picture at the moment, but just received my copy and it indeed is an exact rerelease. Still no lossless Japanese track. Will probably return it, as I own the original release already.
