This remake has been threatened for around a decade now. Initially Noami Watts was announced in the Tippi Hedren role.

What would be nice is if they went back to the original Daphne Du Maurier story which is very different from the film, but it will probably one of these worthless scene for scene remakes.

Tipi Hendrens reaction says enough: "Why would you do that? Why?"

Birds carrying guns and missiles, Baysplosions, etc.

What's not to like? Oh, wait.....

I'm with Tippi on this one.

The uncomprehending"why" comes up on every one of these remake threads. I think it's not that difficult to figure out.

The Birds, starring Dwayne THE F-ING ROCK Johnson.

And instead of actual birds, the birds are war helicopters with BIG ASS GUNS!!

In seriousness; it's a remake, it's by Platinum Dunes so it will probably suck, and if it does it will be as easily forgotten as that atrocious Psycho remake. Psycho is Hitchcock's best film in my opinion, and they already remade that one. The worst has passed. Psycho 1960 is still hailed as a classic whereas the remake has been forgotten, brought up only in conversations like this one where people say "hey, you remember that crappy, pointless Psycho remake with Vince Vaughn and what's her face? That sucked."

Starting with the 2003 Texas Chainsaw remake, Bay's company Platinum Dunes has already produced several horror remakes, including the ones of The Amityville Horror, A Nightmare on Elm St and Friday the 13th. None of them feature explosions or action scenes.

Producing is not the same as directing.

People can complain all the want about remakes but until they stop making money they won't go away. Might as well just accept it and move on. Complaining about them won't do anything.

I don't think anyone is actually expecting a big action movie, those are just jokes that come up any time Bay is in the mix. It's more that Platinum Dunes has made a good handful of crappy horror remakes. Which like I said, no big deal. If this is good, cool. If it's bad, it will end up as forgotten as those Platinum Dunes movies you just mentioned. Hell, the Friday the 13th remake was just a few years ago and as I understand it they're tossing that one out too.

The Birds isn't an untouchable classic, and I actually think it's about time they did a remake. It will probably end up as "bad CGI birds attack people in overly gory ways," which would be disappointing. But if they actually try to make it good, it can be good. Using that same premise with modern filmmaking is welcome as long as it's not a crappy ass movie.

The only Platinum Dunes films that haven't been box office hits were The Hitcher, TCM: The Beginning (it did make 60m off a 18m budget but nothing like the original TCM remake and Amityville) and Horsemen (foreign only) and out of 12 or so films that's not bad so they will continue to be around to p**s off film fans all over the world. Seriously, the best thing to do is just not watch them.

It won't be good and The Birds is a classic, alas nothing is untouchable in Hollywood.

While I find it absurd that people on forums feel it's still obligatory to react with shock and incomprehension to the announcement of yet another remake of a classic horror film, the remakes which work the least are the ones where the films have such a strong signature of a great director. Going up against Hitchcock will always result in a massive fail.
