USA Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key / Fulci's The Black Cat (Arrow)

Edgar Allan Poe's Black Cats: Two Adaptations by Sergio Martino & Lucio Fulci Blu-ray

Quote:
UK Release Date: 12th October 2015
US Release Date: 13th October 2015
Region: A/B+1/2

Edgar Allan Poe’s celebrated story The Black Cat has provided the inspiration for numerous films over the years. But few adaptations are as stylish as those offered up by the twin Italian titans of terror, Sergio Martino and Lucio Fulci.

In Martino’s classic giallo Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key, teacher Oliviero (Luigi Pistilli, A Bay of Blood) finds himself under suspicion for murder when one of his students – and mistress – is found brutally murdered. As more bodies start to pile up, the arrival of Oliviero’s attractive niece (Edwige Fenech, Five Dolls for an August Moon, All the Colours of the Dark) brings with it complications of its own.

In The Black Cat, from that “other” Godfather of Gore, Lucio Fulci (Zombie), Scotland Yard Inspector Gorley (David Warbeck, The Beyond) find himself summoned to a sleepy English village to investigate the recent murder of a young couple. With no obvious signs of entry at the murder scene, Gorley is forced to start considering the possibility that his suspect may not be human…

Finally together on Blu-ray and in stunning new 2K restorations from the original camera negatives, fans can enjoy the double-dose of terror that is Edgar Allan Poe’s Black Cats – Italian-style!

LIMITED EDITION CONTENTS:

-Brand new 2K restorations of the films from the original camera negatives
-High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations
-Original Italian and English soundtracks in mono audio (uncompressed PCM on the Blu-ray)
-Newly translated subtitles for the Italian soundtracks
-Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing for the English soundtracks
-Brand new interview with director Sergio Martino
-Dolls of Flesh and Blood: The Gialli of Sergio Martino – a visual essay by Michael Mackenzie exploring Sergio Martino's unique contributions to the giallo genre
-Stephen Thrower, author of Beyond Terror - The Films of Lucio Fulci, on The Black Cat
-Reversible sleeves featuring original and newly-commissioned artwork by Matthew Griffin
-Limited Edition 80-page perfect-bound book featuring new writing on the films, Poe’s original story and more, illustrated with archive stills and posters
-Much more to be announced!

I've never heard of either of these films, but I love Poe so I may just have to check this out.

It's Fulci's The Black Cat from 1981 and Martino's Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key from 1972

Never seen either of these, but marathon-ing through these two, George Romero, and Argento's version of the Black Cat might be the best way to spend Halloween.

Yes. That is, his 1981 film. Packaged with Martino's Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key. No doubt both will see individual releases as well.

Yes! I was going to buy The Black Cat DVD, but thankfully, I decided to wait. Arrow does not disappoint.

Wow, Arrow really does put to shame US companies like BU and Scream. Arrow's packaging is impeccable, extensive extras, and perfection with their transfers and encoding. And for such niche films like The Black Cat and Your Vice! Some other companies say they can't spend on new transfers for such limited-appeal titles, but Arrow shows that you can, and should. This is the way everyone should be releasing films on Blu.

Any news on US price yet? The UK one is a nasty 33 GBP, and I think Deep Red will eat up all my reward points, so not sure whether I should preorder the UK or US version of this.

I just skimmed through the first few pages of your collection and saw you have a few giallos in there (Bird with the Crystal Plumage and Cat O'Nine Tails). If you enjoy those, I think you might want to give "Your Vice" a chance. It's one of the more well-known and widely enjoyed movies in the genre, often considered the best by Martino (who also did All the Colors of the Dark, Torso, Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh, Case of the Scorpion's Tail, etc). His movies tend to be loaded with nudity and violence, and this one stars Edwige Fenech so it's surely spectacular. His stuff is also a cut above the junkier Giallos out there like "Strip Nude for Your Killer" or whatever, so if you've seen some bad ones don't let them put you off the genre.

I am very familiar with the film, I just don't happen to like it. Like I said, I'll wait for the standalone Fulci.

Sorry for trying to give a recommendation, yikes. Is it bad? I haven't actually seen it yet, had been waiting for bluray.

Then why were you trying to sell me on a film you haven't even seen?
