Default Intel (What is their part)

It seems most of the talk these days is how one big "gorilla" is influencing the competition to a rather quick demise, however, I also wondered where does Intel play into all this? I know that Intel is a definite HD-DVD supporter and has close ties to Microsoft. Though, there was a news article a few months ago that stated that Intel is going to be neutral sometime in summer 2008. What are your thoughts about Intel?

I doubt Intel has any significant involvement in the success or failure of either format.

They use Blu-ray as an example in some of their training modules for the retail sales people. I would think they are nuetral at the moment.

Intel did go neutral a while about, maybe 6 months or so. Intel provided and maybe still provides the CPU for the HDDVD players. And would be their part for us too, but not just CPU intel makes alot of electronic stuff, motherboards, VGA, memory you name it.

Intel's involvement I believe is related to the HDi and the general dislike Intel has towards Sun.

If HD DVD was able to make 30GB HD DVD-RW and produce working burners, Intel would treat the format more seriously.

As soon as the BD burners and the 50GB RE media showed up in volume, Intel decision makers knew which format has won the PC industry. Note that you won't hear Intel or Dell claim that optical storage media is a non factor. The people who really understand the PC industry will never make such outlandish statements. But then, the people who really understand the PC business would be too smart to believe that they can go from nothing to designing, building, selling a competitive mp3 player either, so it's understandable.

I think the main thing will be native Blu-ray support in their Centrino-based laptops next year...

they are in HD DVD, but has no involvement whatsoever. somebody said that BD playback will be included with the next centrino (meaning, no dedicated graphic card needed), but I guess, just like mycrosoft (which vista also has blu-ray auto-play support option), they still behind hd dvd

Intel is in bed with Microsoft(it's not called the WINTEL monopoly for nothing) but they really do not care about this format war. Since the computer industry is going BD they will go BD.
