Default Angel Heart (Alan Parker - 1987) and Jacob's Ladder (Adrian Lyne - 1990) new Blu-rays

Two personal favourites, both being re-issued by Lionsgate this August:

Angel Heart: http://www.amazon.com/Angel-Heart-Bl...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Jacob's Ladder: http://www.amazon.com/Jacobs-Ladder-...AG9DH9S64RV32W

I wonder if either or both are getting 'the treatment'?

Likely just repackagings with UV codes. Lionsgate doesn't do remasters.

The newest Terminator 2 release was a re-encode.

God I hope not, just bought the US Angel Heart!

I cant see it looking much better than it does here though, a noticeable step up from the UK one.

If you enjoy Angel Heart, the Korean release is really nice:

Both good movies and could use remasters, but at the same time are pretty acceptable - especially Jacob's Ladder.

Lionsgate.....lazy *******s.

Why not release something new, like ROTLD 3 uncut?!

Well, that's TERMINATOR 2 and Van Ling had something to do with that disc. We're talking about Angel Heart and Jacob's Ladder. No way these will be new encodes.

More over -- what's wrong with the Blu-Rays that are out there? They were both AVC and fairly recent masters, and both looked pretty good as far as I remember.

Agree! Seems like they only release the same 7 or 8 titles over and over, like Warner. There's literally hundreds of untapped catalog films and they choose these same ones

I'd be up for a 4K remaster of Jacob's Ladder. One of my favorite films.

Because these discs are already made. Hence, very little cost to re-release.

ROTLD 3 uncut would take money.

Very nice set! But is it same transfer as the US disc since that is the best PQ? Interesting to see DTS-HD MA 2.0 on Korean since US disc only have DD for that but both have DTS-HD MA 5.1.

Just watched Angel Heart recently.

It looks/sounds great already. Not exactly a contender for a remaster.

Yep. Watched it the other night. It looks pretty much as good as its ever going to look I think - especially for a film of this age and budget. I was quite surprised at how good it is actually. Sounds about as good as its going to as well. It was on a BD25 so I dont know if giving it some breathing space on a BD50 might make some difference? Probably just a repackage anyway.

The US disc have abnormal low bitrate and on such a old movie with lot of grain I'm sure it could look better (better compression) even without a brand new transfer. Guess I will pick up the US sooner or later since it looks to be the best overall for PQ/AQ. Even the european discs with much higher bitrate looks worse since they use another older? studio canal transfer.

The "love" scene at the end of Angel Heart is pretty gross when you realize that
[Show spoiler]Mickey Rourke is actually Lisa Bonet's father
.

Ok, so which edition is the one to buy? The Newest reissue with the black cover, the second one that came out in 2014, or the first one from 2009?
