Default So I was at Best Buy yesterday...

They had the same Blu Ray, and HD DVD displays that they've had for a while now, but what was different was that they had someone labeled a "movie expert" that was standing by the Blu Ray display answering questions for people, and generally promoting the Blu format.
As cool as that was to see, the really amusing part was that over by the HD DVD display they had absolutely nobody there. I even think I saw a coyote and a few tumbleweeds rolling through that part of the store.

Which best buy was it? Maybe I'll drive there and test his knowledge about blu-ray.

Wish they'd do that at my local BB. I asked about how the red discs were selling in a manner that made obvious my stance and the manager shot back with a disdainful glance and "We sell everything very well, thank you." Every other employee I asked gave me a deer in the headlights look and some unhelpful remark.

Speaking of Best Buy, I've been in 3 Magnolia Best Buys in the last month or so, and all of them had blu-ray players *only* in the Magnolia section. It seems that HD-DVD has priced itself out of the higher end section of Best Buy. That's a powerful message to people in the store....HD-DVD with all the ordinary stuff and BD in the *deluxe* area.

they should put a ps3 in the delux area too. I think that would make a point that it's a great media system, not just for gaming.

They have a Sony rep at my Best Buy as well as a DLP rep. I don't believe the magnolia has a Blu-ray player setup yet at my location. The signal in the main TV area actually looks better than the one being played in Magnolia. I mean, why show a shitty signal on $4,000+ TVs. That boggles my mind.

according to one of my old co-workers (I used to work at one of the original magnolia hi-fi locations) there's issues with the distributors that work with magnolia not letting them sell PS3's. Not sure how the Best Buy arrangement would work though.

The last time I went to the magnolia BBuy near me they had a BD player set up. They had a regular BBuy employee there telling me about how great lossless audio is and I asked to hear it, and he said he could get a movie but that they don't have any receivers set up for lossless audio! I started a thread on here about that. How do you expect to sell something that I cannot hear for myself!

For the OP, great story.

Best Buy sells the HD-A3 at $299, that's $201 more than the market value. Of course no one's buying them.

The BB in Miami also had a rep paid by Disney promoting blu-ray sales all day long. Id say the hd dvd display was empty with the exception that store took down the hd dvd display over 2 months ago.

What can I say our store it's ahead of it's time. lol

I saw the same thing yesterday too, but it was at the one off San Pedro. It was some lady who really only sounded like she wanted to get the couple steered in the direction of Blu because she then proceeded to hand them over to a BB employee(bad idea).

Umm, its not a feral dog. Its a dog thats native to Australia, found no-where else in the world. The baby Azaria was taken about 25 years ago from Ayres Rock which is in the Northern Territory.

Same thing here in Louisiana. Both HD-DVD and Blu-ray had displays and samplers playing in the TV section, but we had a Movie Expert at the Blu-ray display talking all about Blu-ray being the format of choice, answering questions, and helping promote the format.

Only bad thing was the guy looked like Old man River, lol. He had a couple of facts wrong, but I helped chime in a couple of times to help influence a couple of people who were in the crowd.

It was great to see 10 people all surrounding the Blu-ray display and not a single person at the HD-DVD area.
