Default Region 2 DVD's on BDP-S1 and PS3

First off I searched the forums for this and was not able to come up with anything so here it goes:

Can a U.S. BDP-S1 or 60GB PS3 play Region 2 dvd's? I looked through the instruction manual and the only region related information I saw was in regards to Blu-Ray discs, not dvd's. I'm assuming not but I could be wrong. Any help on this subject would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Drew

Unfortunately, no. All current blu ray players and PS3's out in any market are only limited to their respective regions when it comes to DVDs and Blu Rays.

I was very upset myself due to the fact that I want to import some German blu ray films. A few of them are region locked and I was basically forced into buying a PAL PS3 (very expensive).

However, since you want to watch region 2 Pal or Japan DVD's, you can easily get an affordable all-region player. I have one that also upscales to 1080P through HDMI.

You know, I bought a copy of Starship Troopers from the UK Amazon site, which lists it as being Region 2, and it plays perfectly on my PS3. I'm not sure if it's an anomaly, but I have heard that many region 2 Blu-rays are actually region free.
Not really a full endorsement, but some do work.

You might want to check out

where you can find info on what region coded BDs will play in the other region players.

There is a whole list of region "B" (eruope) titles released on BD that play in US BD players.

Face Off, The Island, The Rock, Children of Men, etc.... someone else will probly post the link to the list.
