Not sure. I'm probably in the minority but the Richard Chamberlain TV version was my favorite. Got the Japanese DVD of it, hard to find.

My favorite book... and the movie was pretty good. It would look VERY nice in HD.
Id definitley buy it if it came to Bluray. It was produced by Spyglass Entertainment.... so a good chance of it coming to Blu. Considering they have put out a bunch of others that hae come out thus far. |

I wouldn't suggest that to anyone who was introduced to the story through the Jim Caviezel/Guy Pearce film...one of the best parts of the film is the relationship between Edmond and Mercedes, as well as the montage with "Priest" [Richard Harris]
In the book, to put it simply, he pretty much dumps Mercedes, turns his son against his family, and hooks up with some chick the reader could care less about, then he goes off the count his money....sure, it adds more details about the prison and the repayment of his debts and all sorts of silly things, but is it really worth it at the cost of lots of the heart that the movie has? The marriage between Fernand and Mercedes..the tension between the count and his son...it just adds so much more to the "Revenge" aspect and once you get to the end, you're just like "Hell yeah!" The movie leaves one completely satisfied, the book just makes you say "Eh, that was long" I must add, I usually disagree with people who say "OH THE BOOK IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE MOVIE.." Film making is such a different art and there's just no way to compare a book to a movie... |

The Count of Monte Cristo is indeed a Spyglass title, but its distributor is Disney.
This title will definitely be blue in the states, and Disney does have distribution in some foreign territories too. As for when this will be released on Blu...well, if I were a betting man...I'd say...August 08. Like...the 5th of August. Just a guess though. |
