4k Remastered BD release is in the works, and it will presumably be released next year to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the movie.

I hope they won't be forcing us to buy UHD. I just want the Blu. Ah well, we'll see.

Yesss, combo packs. That's what I was hoping for with the whole UHD thing.

Please put the extended version on Blu! I made my own three disk pack. First disc is the current Blu. Second disc is the extended version on DVD and the third disc is the disc of extras that came in the limited edition DVD combo with the extended edition. They really need to also put all those extras on the new Blu. Not all extras were ported to the Blu. There is a full disc worth needing to be ported over. But start with the extended version. Some of the added minutes are pointless but some really add a lot to the movie.

I love this film completely. I adore it. I feel no guilt or shame whatsoever, I'm proud to love this film and its wonderful score.

But why?

Most of the scenes were not even integrated into the film properly - some are literally dropped into the middle of an existing scene - and none of them were mixed properly either, all of them are in mono.

The scenes involving Russell Casse's kids were terribly acted and should never have been restored to the film, leaving the nicer stuff with the others (especially David) except for the editing as I've mentioned.

I like some of those scenes on their own but they really should've been more precise with how they were edited back in, and which scenes to leave out.

I really enjoy this movie so for me it'll turn into a game of "should I or shouldn't I?". I suspect they'll try to use the Extended Cut as a marketing ploy to get people to double dip yet again. FWIW, this has been going on since the early days of DVD so I try not to think about it too much

Long overdue, I'm excited at the thought of having a good Blu-ray come my next July 4th watching of ID4 and 1776 (I don't mind having a good UHD disc along with it but I can't imagine I'll have a UHD player at that time). I'm all for the theatrical cut but kind of like the POTA discs the ID4 Blu-ray looks too smooth for my liking.

well if ID4: Resurgence has a release date of 6/24/16, my guesstimate would have the remastered ID4 coming out around March or April.

I imagine it will be a BD/UHD combo like we are seeing with Fox's other UHD titles.

Well, I guess we know what to expect when True Lies and The Abyss finally get announced. (Answer: UHD/BD combo pack)

Also, I suppose this means that Fox is truly done with catalog titles on blu-ray. I think Working Girl (back in January) was their last one...?

Pass, unless a BD only version is offered. I have no interest in uhdbd at all, and will not pay even $1 extra for a uhdbd disc.

It will probably happen, even if it's just some store exclusive or something.

Meh, if they don't do BD only releases for True Lies and The Abyss, I'll just sell off the UHD disc.

I have the same opimion about DVDs, but unfortunately many times I have put up with getting the DVD too which i will never watch, in bluray-DVD combos!

If there's no BD only option, they lose a sale. It's that simple for me. I have no interest in 4K and don't want to help make it the next physical format.

ID4 had been on my wishlist for years and I finally pulled the trigger on it last week with the BB 4.99 deals. Trust them to announce this now, but I guess I should have known with the sequel coming out.
