It reminds me of Japanese flicks like Tokyo Gore Police and Machine Girl

I have the UK release, and I loved this movie! Anybody who grew up in the 80's and loves 80's music & apocalyptic movies, this will be right up your ally.

Just got the UK disc a couple of days ago. It's pretty good. The Mad Max on bikes aspect of it is a sly nod to a more realistic apocalypse situation, but that's about as close to realism as it gets, thankfully. One of the most important things they they absolutely nailed is the music. It's dead on to 80s pop rock soundtracks, great stuff. My biggest criticism, strangely, is that they could have gone a little more over the top with their scenarios, and their gore. There definitely is a large amount of comedy gore in this, but as someone who has watched Braindead(Dead/Alive) over a dozen times, many of the gags are lifted straight from it. Especially in the wake of the insane 80s nostalgia fest that was Kung Fury, I felt like Turbo Kid really needed to up its game. Still a lot of fun though.

The 2 leads in the film are also French Canadian.

I really like the slip over the steelbook. Good for preventing scratches. Anyone know if there's a place to buy them?

I think capybara was referring to the clear slipcover.

You can find clear slips for steelbooks on eBay, but I've bought them here before: http://www.blu-steels.com/ and I'd buy there again. They don't look exactly the same but they're a great product that look nice and fit steelbooks perfectly (as long as the steels are not sealed and have the back card removed).
