I'm very underwhelmed by this trailer, i think i'm feeling Marvel fatigue. I wasn't crazy about The Winter Soldier so the fact that this is from the same directors doesn't get me very excited. Coupled with the fact that we'll probably be given very mild 3D.

The important clue in the Captain America: Civil War trailer you may have missed

Screen shot 3.jpg

Quote:
The person receiving the document has painted fingernails and is wearing rings —
[Show spoiler]so it's probably Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) or Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) if Hurt is indeed talking to the Avengers:

The document is labeled "Sokovia Accords," and according to an eagle-eyed Redditor, its full title is "Sokovia Accords: Framework for the Registration and Deployment of Enhanced Individuals." Sokovia is the country that Ultron attacked and then levitated in an attempt to wipe out the world in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Can't wait, I think this will be the one I'm looking forward to most next year. I watched the first one last night after seeing the trailer the other day and will be watching Winter Soldier tonight.

Definitely excited for this. Shame they haven't shown us Spider-Man yet...hopefully in the next trailer.

This looks like a great conflict for the story, where Captain is protecting his friend who is wanted by the law and Iron Man. Iron Man is clearly less of a friend than Bucky was to Steve (Captain) back in the old days, and Bucky's his last remaining friend from his time, so it's not hard to understand why he wants to help him stay alive from those trying to kill him.
I enjoyed the first one, but the 2nd movie, Winter Soldier, was awesome. Also can't wait to see this! Just hope they amp up the 3D more, as there were a lot of complaints that it was mild, though I felt it was about low medium to medium range, decent.

We'll see how it turns out. I remember you mentioned you didn't care for the story line and how Hydra was involved. How did you like the action scenes?

I hope they push the 3d a bit here. Regardless, this looks fun.

Yeah the action and fight sequences were really well staged, i just didn't like the storyline/ Hydra's plan. With regard to Civil War i'm not really interested in a story where they're all fighting each other but i guess it'll offer us something a bit different. I don't know, i wish i could get more excited but i'm just really lukewarm on this.

Thanks Levcore.
Marvel's cranking out the movies, so it depends on what fans are eager or ready for. I can wait a few years for the next Avengers after Avengers 2.

Civil War hopefully will keep things original in the storyline and twists as I felt they did with Winter Soldier, which felt more "grounded, more realistic" in terms of action compared to the more over the top style of Avengers.
This one will introduce Black Panther, who could be cool. Spider-Man apparently too. Hopefully not too many new characters to dilute the focus on the main story, but I think this team will handle it well.

Good find Tigermoth. Looks really good. Medium to high medium 3D layers.

Caught a midnight screening of Captain America: Civil War. It was actually part of a Cap triple-bill, so the character's story arc came across strongly, especially his loyalty to his old friend, Bucky Barnes.

I'm a big fan of the first two Cap films, and I've liked all the MCU films so far. Apart from maybe Guardians of the Galaxy, Civil War is the best of the lot for me. It's smart, funny, stuffed full of great character moments (everyone gets a chance to shine), and throws some interesting dilemmas at the audience. Spider-Man and Ant-Man bring the laughs (in ways that absolutely work), Black Panther is excellent, and the plot twists come thick and fast. It's Marvel at the top of their game.

The 3D continues where Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron left off: solid depth, worthwhile, but never as strong as it could be. With all the crazy superpowers, there's so much scope for creative 3D (Scarlet Witch's energy fields, for example, could easily whirl outside the screen). It's all too...perfunctory. Predictable. With the level of creativity that goes into every other facet of these films, it's a shame the filmmakers (mostly) switch off when it comes to 3D.

Curious to see what the rest of you think of this one.

good review, i'm actually looking forward to seeing this in IMAX 3D, i agree about the filmmakers switch off when it comes to 3d, luckily that wasn't the case with ant man, the avengers and guardians of the galaxy.

Seeing it Sunday at Imax, I have zero excitement for it based on the previous movie and general Marvel fatigue. I hope I will be pleasantly surprised.

I don't even need to watch the film to know that I will agree with you 100% about the 3D, I've ordered the steelbook rather than blow money on cinema tickets for yet another serviceable but ultimately underwhelming Marvel conversion.

It definitely continues the themes of Winter Soldier, but there are a lot more points of view this time out regarding the central dilemma: submit to government control or not. It's a tricky choice, and I think that's what lifts this one above the other Marvel films: it's not straightforward good vs evil.

Let us known what it's like at IMAX! I'm debating whether to go myself (it's a 90 minute trip to reach the nearest one).

Avengers 1 and Guardians stood out for me as well. There were quite a few really nice 3D moments, usually in the flying scenes. Everything since then has been dialled back a little, IMO. I'm definitely buying Civil War on 3D blu-ray, though.

Thanks MercurySeven for the early 3D review.
The trailer looked high medium to strong 3D, but then again, they can separately convert the trailer and then for the movie, have another conversion with just medium or mild 3D.

Solid depth and worthwhile? Sounds promising. But I agree, if they can amp up the 3D into the strong range for every scene, movie fans will have more to look forward to when considering the 3D version.

Ant Man, Galaxy, and Avengers 1's action scenes looked stronger so here's hoping for some of that here also, even if the dialog scenes aren't as exciting in 3D from the sound of it.

Isn't that a little misleading though?
