Blu-ray Duke

![]() ![]() Pre-order: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B018IJWE94 Due February 8th, 2016 from Spirit Entertainment. Great news! Was worried this wouldn't get a Blu-ray release in the UK, coming from Spirit Entertainment, but since it did so well at the Box Office (it was in the Top 10 for 2-3 weeks) I guess they thought it was worth it. One of the best films of the year and looking forward to revisiting it! |

Fantastic! For some reason I assumed Curzon/Artificial Eye would be handling the release but apparently not. Look forward to picking this up.

Picturehouse Entertainment (i.e. Picturehouse Cinemas' distribution arm) handled the theatrical release, so I was wondering who they might release it on home video through - in the past they used Revolver Entertainment (Cave of Forgotten Dreams, The Imposter), 4dvd (The Stone Roses: Made of Stone, A Field in England, Blue Ruin, 20,000 Days on Earth), and now it seems they're releasing through Spirit Entertainment.
I can't really find out who Spirit are...I was going to contact them to ask if The Lobster would be released on Blu-ray, since they had released a few Blu-rays before (this is what they've released to date). Glad I don't have to do that now! But yeah, I'm just glad we're seeing it on Blu-ray rather than just DVD. It's a lovely looking film so it would be appreciated in high definition! |

Definitely one of the best of the year - saw it twice in the cinema and can't wait to see it again. Some fantastic scenes and a great script and the performances are brilliant - not easy to pull off given the stylised dialogue and delivery. Farrell is obviously great but Seydoux and Colman are stand outs as well.

I thought this was awful, I have to say. What was with the overwritten dialogue and stilted performances? Like the concept deserves at least a single point, it's pretty wild, but I don't understand how you can compare this pretentious nonsense to the likes of Under the Skin. This was more like a Mighty Boosh sketch.

I just mean that Under the Skin felt like a legitimate movie, this felt like a screwball sketch only no one seemed to be in on the joke. |

Huh? The entire cast seemed to be 'in on the joke'. If you watch Lanthimos' previous work, he's kinda been building up to something like this...getting more and more playful, dry, and farcical. The addition of some talented English-speaking actors - not to mention the chance to shoot in Ireland - was the icing on the cake this time around!
In tone, I felt this was somewhere between Roy Andersson's A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence and Steve Oram's Aaaaaaaah!, but I much preferred it to both of those films (personally speaking). Colin Farrell's best work since In Bruges, and possibly my favourite appearance by Rachel Weisz in anything. The rest of the cast are great too, but those two lead the pack. |

The first half was going so well that I was legitimately loving this film with its bizareness and imaginative concept. Then the second half completely lost me and made me loose all developed interest. 3/5 I'd rate it.
