Default IGN Reviews "The Simpsons Movie"

Quote:
Video and Presentation

It's difficult to judge the video quality of a film as simply constructed as The Simpsons -- even when the perfectly suitable animation quality takes a small, yet noticeable leap forward in cinematic scope for the feature film release. The colors translate well, never appearing muted or washed-out, and in this Blu-ray trasnfer, they only appear a bit brighter. By its nature, there's a general absence of grain or ghosting, with no discernable digitization. For a Simpsons adventure, this is a perfectly translated Blu-ray, though in comparison to the quality of live-action, epic-movie visuals, it's fairly mid-range. Take the score below only to mean that this film looks better than its television counterpart, but not as awe-inspiring as something like Spider-Man or 300. In fact, it doesn't look noticably different than the regular DVD release with the exception of appearing a bit more crisp.

Score: 6 out of 10

6 out of 10? Clearly, this person don't know how to review the video quality of a movie. According to many people here, they claim it's reference quality since it's so sharp and the colours are bright.

It's going to be reference quality as far as simple 2d animation goes, but that guy is kind of nuts if he's expecting to be wowed in the same way as the pirates movies.

So because it's an animated film, he took points away from it? Does he want a live action Simpsons? This makes absolutely no sense.

This the problem with the review system that I think dvdbeaver.com gets right. They award two scores: one for the film compared to other Blu-rays and one compared to how they expect the quality to match up to what was presented in theatres.

That is actually an excellent way to review the movie. The problem with the review system is that there are so many variables that can affect one's viewing of a film. If every single reviewer had the exact same setup, with the exact same setting it would be different. What I may see as a beautiful piece of work, another viewer may see as pure rubbish.
